Mission and objectives
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity on human rights. Assignment context
The Online Volunteer for social media will support the OHCHR New York Office in implementing its communications and advocacy activities. Working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO), the volunteer will contribute to the creation of social media posts to give visibility to the work of the UN Human Rights Office in New York.
Task description
The OHCHR New York Office is seeking one (1) Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and in close collaboration with relevant colleagues, will support the production of visual communications materials and social media content.
In particular, the Online Volunteer will be asked to:
• Create three social media posts per week to promote OHCHR's advocacy initiatives, reports, statements, campaigns and events.
• Research images to accompany the social media posts.
Skills and experience
Candidates should have professional experience with social media, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. Experience in video editing and motion graphics animation would be considered an asset. A strong background in media and communications tools with an emphasis on social media is an advantage.
TOOLS & LICENSES
• Access to tools like Canva, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and other multimedia creation tools will not be provided. Applicants must have their own access to the necessary tools to produce the required output for this role.
SKILLS
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint;
• Proficiency in design software and social media platforms preferred;
• Ability to work independently but with strong interpersonal skills;
• Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines.
