The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS). The temporary position is based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and is located in the Office of the Chief, Operations and Resources Management. The incumbent will report to the Chief, Operations and Resources Management.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Coordination Officer will be responsible for the following duties: Analysis, Advice and Reporting: -Identify issues and develop strategies, policies, advocacy initiatives and programming approaches to promote a coherent Mission-wide response and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.- -Develop and advance common objectives between the Mission, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), and other partners, including identifying opportunities to support mandate implementation. -Prepare analytical and strategic documents, including situation reports, background notes, options papers, code cables, briefing materials, and inputs for reports of senior Mission leadership. -Develop recommendations and provide strategic advice to support Mission planning and decision-making processes. Partnerships, Liaison and Engagement: -Develop and maintain productive partnerships and build consensus with Mission components, UNCT members, Headquarters, national authorities, civil society organizations, bilateral and multilateral donors, regional organizations, the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders. -Serve as a liaison between the Mission, UN entities, local authorities, and external partners to facilitate coordination, information-sharing, and implementation of mandated activities. -Represent the Mission Support Division/Section at meetings, forums, and inter-agency coordination mechanisms as required. -Provide substantive and administrative support, including secretariat functions, to committees, task forces, clusters, steering committees, working groups, and other coordination bodies. Coordination, Planning and Organizing: -Organize and coordinate conferences, meetings, seminars, workshops, missions, and official visits. -Prepare talking points, speeches, briefing materials, and meeting notes as required. -Serve as a focal point for administrative, budgetary, planning, and coordination matters assigned by supervisors. -Review and coordinate correspondence, reports, and analytical products, ensuring timely action, follow-up, and consistency with Mission objectives and mandate implementation. -Analyze complex cases and issues and provide recommendations for resolution. -Ensure compliance with applicable UN policies, regulations, standards of conduct, ethics requirements, and gender mainstreaming principles in all areas of responsibility. -Perform other related duties as assigned. Administration: -Develop, implement, and monitor work plans, strategies, and administrative activities, and support the mobilization and management of required human, financial, and logistical resources. -Plan and forecast personnel, financial, and logistical requirements of Mission components in coordination with relevant offices. -Exercise budgetary and administrative oversight, including certification of expenditures under delegated authority, and prepare related reports. -Draft guidelines, reports, correspondence, and policy documents, ensuring compliance with applicable UN rules, regulations, and administrative procedures. -Advise supervisors on administrative and operational issues, support problem-solving efforts, and undertake special assignments and projects as required. -Assist the Head of Office in the overall management of the Office, including the direct supervision, guidance and performance management of junior staff.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in Political Science, Social Science, Development or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two (2) additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, conflict resolution or a related area is required. Extensive experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice and reporting is required. Experience working in a United Nations field operation (including peacekeeping operations, special political missions and field operations of UN agencies, funds and programmes) or a similar international organization or non-governmental organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is required.
Languages

Special Notice
This temporary job opening is available for six (6) months and is being advertised for advance planning purposes pending formal approval of the relevant funding and staffing structures. An appointment may be terminated, or post level adjusted in accordance with the Staff Rules for such reasons as abolition of post or reduction of staff or committee funding approvals, for example in the event that the funding for the post is not approved or the mandate of the mission is not extended.
