Mission and objectives

UN Women (UNW), grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women plays an innovative and catalytic role in the State of Palestine since its inception in 1997. UN Women Palestine Office focuses its activities on one overarching goal, namely, to support the implementation at the national level of existing international commitments to advance gender equality in line with the national priorities. In support of this goal, and thoroughly taking into consideration the specificities of the Palestinian context, UN Women concentrates its efforts and interventions toward the realisation of following strategic goals: Mainstreaming gender in governance, peace and security; Supporting women's economic security and rights; and Promoting women’s rights and protection against violence.

Assignment context

UN Women Palestine uses communications and advocacy to promote gender equality, highlight the experiences and leadership of Palestinian women and girls, and communicate programme results. The volunteer will support the Communications team in developing engaging digital and social media content in Arabic and English, including Reels, short videos, carousels and other formats, to help strengthen reach and audience engagement.

Task description

• Support the development of social media content in Arabic and English.
• Draft and edit captions, short social media copy and campaign messages.
• Adapt content for different social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube.
• Follow relevant social media trends and suggest creative formats that can be appropriately adapted for UN Women content.
• Support the development of Reels, short videos, carousels, quote cards and other digital content.
• Support efforts to increase audience reach, engagement and interaction.
• Assist in reviewing social media performance and identifying content and formats that perform well.
• Contribute to communications and advocacy campaigns.

Expected outputs:

Develop 6 bilingual social media content packages in Arabic and English, based on materials provided by UN Women. These may include captions/copy and proposed formats such as carousels, quote cards or other social media content.

• Develop/edit 2 short-form videos or Reels.
• Adapt the content for relevant social media platforms, as required.

Skills and experience

• Background or studies in communications, media, journalism, marketing, digital communications or a related field (required).
• Strong writing and editing skills in Arabic and English (required).
• Good understanding of major social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X and YouTube (required).
• Interest in social media trends, digital storytelling and creating engaging content (required).
• Creativity and ability to suggest ideas for social media posts, Reels, carousels and other digital formats (required).
• Basic understanding of what helps improve social media reach, engagement and audience interaction (desirable).
• Familiarity with Canva, CapCut or similar content creation and editing tools (desirable).
• Basic knowledge of social media analytics and performance indicators (desirable).
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and coordinate remotely with team members (required).
