Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) leads the UN Country Team (UNCT), including all UN entities with programmes in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea supports the UN Resident Coordinator. Key functions of the RCO include strategic analysis, planning, and positioning of the UN Country Team. The RCO is looking for two interns to join its team in Bangkok and contribute to the economics and data management-related work of the office. The internship will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to learn about how the UN system operates at the country level, and to contribute to RCO activities and corporate reporting requirements. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The internship is unpaid and full-time. The interns will report to the Head of Office. Duties and Responsibilities • Conduct independent research and provide inputs to reports and analyses produced by the RC office, with focus on sustainable agricultural development, health, climate action, and disaster risk management as well as youth, gender and disability inclusion; • Support the development and updating of databases and other information management activities; • Support the UNCT and UN RCO in achieving their annual monitoring and reporting requirements, through the UNINFO platform; • Attend relevant capacity development initiatives, training, and meetings, and provide briefing materials. • Support any additional tasks undertaken by the RCO on a needs basis. Competencies • Sound research, data analysis, and data management skills, familiarity with sustainable development and core concept in the areas of sustainable agriculture, health and disaster risk reduction as well as gender, youth and disability inclusion • Excellent drafting skills in English • Ability to provide high-quality written contributions on thematic topics • Knowledge of the UN system and its mandate would be considered an asset • Familiarity/previous experience in the geopolitical and development context of North East Asia, especially the Korean Peninsula, would be considered an asset
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
