Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) of the United Nations is leading the digital transformation of the Organization to enable a better, safer, more sustainable future through secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions. The OICT's Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS) develops and supports a wide range of enterprise solutions and provides products and services that support the work of the UN. This position is within the OICT/ESS office, hosted by the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre. This position is based in Deqing, Zhejiang, China. Duties and Responsibilities The consultant will be expected to perform the following tasks, under the supervision of the team leader • Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new applications with a Geospatial and/or AI components, using UN established standards. • Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed applications, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations. • Provides support for deployed applications including version management and troubleshooting; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users requests. • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new tools and libraries. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Nota bene: • The consultant has 10 paid UN holidays per calendar year, following the calendar of the UNESCAP office in Bangkok.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 3+ years of hands-on experience building web applications with React and .NET Core is required 3+ years of hands-on experience using JavaScript/TypeScript is required 3+ years of hands-on experience using C# is required 3+ years of hands-on experience with SQL and REST API is required Experience with Azure Functions is desirable Experience with AI and GIS is desirable. Ability to travel abroad for projects is desirable. Applicants are required to be authorized to work in China regardless of where they live at the time of applying for the job opening. The UN will not sponsor for a visa.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
