Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located within the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service (CDOTS) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). CDOTS provides operational training, language and communications training, training on the UN’s enterprise resource planning system, knowledge management, and leads as the main facilitator of business process management activities in the UN Secretariat. At CDOTS, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of technological advancements and innovation. Our learning and development team is dedicated to nurturing talent, facilitating knowledge sharing, and driving continuous professional growth. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic intern to join the Learning and Development team. This internship opportunity offers a unique experience to contribute to the UN's mission while gaining valuable insights and practical skills in the field of learning and development. Under the supervision of the Training Officer, the intern will: - Support the translation, localization, and quality assurance of learning and training materials from English into French, ensuring linguistic accuracy, consistency, and cultural appropriateness. - Assist in managing, maintaining, and publishing multilingual content using the Organization's translation tool and Learning Management System (LMS). - Review, edit, and proofread translated materials. - Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality French-language learning content.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Translation or a related field; or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent) in any of the fields above Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or PhD Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PHD Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants must be proficient in standard office software systems (e.g., MS Office 365 or similar) Preference will be given to applicants with a background in translation and demonstrated proficiency in using translation tools (Smartcat, Deepl).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in both spoken and written English and French is required for the internship.
Additional Information
Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 or J1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. The selected person will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT), allowing them to undertake the internship.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
