Update

Assignment context

The Light Coordination Mechanism (LCM) within the Integrated Training Service (ITS), Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (DPET), Department of Peace Operations (DPO), is currently revamping the United Nations Deployment Review Mobile Application.

The application was originally launched at the 2021 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Seoul to provide uniformed personnel serving in United Nations peace operations with a structured methodology and practical tools to document their experiences, share lessons learned with their respective capitals, and strengthen future preparation and deployment processes.

As part of the revamp, the application will focus on enhancing the user experience and expanding its digital content, including the integration of key guidance materials and pocket cards that support peacekeepers’ performance, safety, and security in the field.

To support this initiative, the LCM is seeking one Online Volunteer with professional graphic design skills to assist with the layout and design of a series of pocket cards. These materials cover a range of peacekeeping-related topics, such as Protection of Civilians, Child Protection, Conflict-Related Sexual Violence, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.

Pocket cards are concise reference tools that provide peacekeepers with quick access to essential guidance, reinforcing key principles and procedures in a clear, accessible, and user-friendly format. By translating operational guidance into practical reference materials, pocket cards contribute to informed decision-making and effective operational performance in the field.

Shortlisted candidates will be requested to submit samples of previous graphic design work.

Task description

We are seeking one (1) Online Volunteer to support the design and layout of pocket cards that will be incorporated into the UN Deployment Review Mobile Application.

Under the supervision of the LCM team, the Online Volunteer will:
• Design and format up to ten (10) pocket cards, ranging from one (1) to five (5) pages each;
• Work closely with the LCM team and designated UN focal points responsible for the content of each pocket card;
• Create visually appealing, accessible, and user-friendly layouts that enhance readability and usability for peacekeepers in the field;
• Incorporate feedback received from the LCM team and subject-matter experts throughout the design process;
• Prepare final design files in formats suitable for digital dissemination through the mobile application.
The design and layout of all materials shall comply with UN corporate branding and design guidelines, which will be shared with the selected Online Volunteer.

The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the Department of Peace Operations and gain insight into the work of the LCM and lessons-learning initiatives that support troop- and police-contributing countries participating in UN peace operations. The assignment will also provide an opportunity to contribute directly to improving the accessibility and effectiveness of operational guidance for peacekeepers worldwide.
