Mission and objectives

UNDP ‘s programme is designed to address the interlinked issues of poverty, inequality and vulnerability to shocks and is managed within two portfolios:

Responsive Institutions and Citizen Engagement which works towards strengthening effective, accountable and inclusive governance that promotes civic engagement, respect for human rights, rule of law, peace and democracy. It also works towards strengthening data generation and analysis.

Resilience and Sustainable Growth which focusses on enhancing economic innovation, inclusive business, job creation, and renewable energy access. It also works towards helping Malawi adapt to climate change and build resilience to disasters.

Assignment context

UNDP Malawi is supporting a volunteer impact storytelling initiative that aims to document and showcase the contributions of United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) to sustainable development in Malawi.

As part of the International Year of Volunteers commemorations, volunteers' stories, photographs, testimonials, and development results will be transformed into compelling visual products that celebrate volunteerism, promote public recognition of volunteer contributions, and highlight progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To support this effort, UNDP Malawi is seeking Online Volunteers to help create professional quote cards and volunteer spotlight visuals for use across digital communication platforms.

Task description

Under the guidance of the UNDP Malawi Communications team, the Online Volunteer will:

-Design visually appealing quote cards featuring UN Volunteers' stories, reflections, and impact statements.
-Create branded volunteer spotlight posters using photographs and approved campaign messaging.
-Incorporate volunteer quotations, impact statistics, SDG references, and key campaign messages into compelling visual designs.
-Apply UNV branding guidelines, templates, logos, and visual identity standards.
-Prepare social media graphics optimized for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, and the UNV website.
-Ensure visual consistency across all campaign materials.
-Carry out basic photo enhancement and optimization where necessary to improve image quality.
-Produce editable source files and final publication-ready designs.

Skills and experience

-Experience creating social media graphics, quote cards, or advocacy materials.
-Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or similar tools.
-Strong visual storytelling and layout design skills.
-Ability to communicate development impact through visual products.
-Attention to detail and ability to work within branding guidelines.
-Previous experience supporting NGOs, development organizations, or communications campaigns is an asset.
