Mission and objectives

UNAMA was established in 2002 as a Political/ Peacebuilding Mission, exceptionally) directed and supported by the UN Department of
Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).

Assignment context

This mandate tasks UNAMA with the promotion and support of humanitarian assistance in line with humanitarian principles, human rights, equality for women and girls, inclusive governance, resilience, and economic stability, and with the use of our good offices for principled and constructive engagement with all national, regional, and global stakeholders in the pursuit of Afghanistan’s peace and stability.

UNAMA reaffirms its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national unity of Afghanistan; as well as its continued support for the people of Afghanistan, within the framework of the UN Charter and other international laws and instruments.

UNAMA's vision is for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan that lives at peace with itself and its neighbours, where the rights of all the people of Afghanistan are upheld, without discrimination. On 15 June 2026, UNAMA’s mandate was extended for another year by UN Security Council Resolution 2727 (2026).

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Deputy chief Security Officer (DCSO) or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Implementation of CITS/ICT services for badge processes services (Pass & ID Unit) for UNAMA, UN Agencies, Fund and Programmes (AFPs) working in Afghanistan.
Develop and maintain the Security Section’s databases and websites to improve results and implement user friendly client oriented services.
Ensure effective functioning, installation, operation and maintenance of all hardware & software equipment’s.
Implement backup and restoration procedures for shared drives and assist with technical specifications for the procurement of new ICT equipment’s for UN Security in Afghanistan.
Organize trainings for security staff in the regions and provinces on CITS & ICT issues.
Develop an Electronic daily staff list and a security incidents analysis tool.
Upgrade the current UN Badge database (Pass & ID Unit) with connections to TRIP and FSS to ensure smooth and accurate processing of badges to both UNAMA and other UN AFPs.
Conduct workshop at all duty stations in the country.

Skills and experience

Three (3) years’ experience in ICT, including experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of ICT hardware and software.
Demonstrated experience in database and/or web-based application development, administration or maintenance.
Experience in implementing data backup and restoration procedures and in developing or supporting ICT tools, databases and/or data analysis solutions.
Experience in providing ICT user support.
Experience in delivering ICT technical training and supporting ICT systems and services across multiple locations or field offices is an asset.
Work experience with DSS or in a UN or field mission environment is an advantage.
