Mission and objectives

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger and strengthening food security systems. In India, WFP works closely with national and state governments to enhance public distribution systems, supply chain efficiency, digital transformation, and nutrition-sensitive programming.

Assignment context

The Private Partnerships team mobilizes financial and non-financial resources, technical expertise, and innovation from the private sector. The team also contributes to South–South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) initiatives by facilitating knowledge exchange and scalable partnership models across countries.

The UN Volunteer will support the Private Partnerships and SSTC team in strategic research, partner engagement, proposal development, marketing and positioning efforts, and coordination of high-level engagements. The role contributes to strengthening WFP India’s private sector pipeline, enhancing partnership visibility, and supporting cross-country knowledge exchange initiatives. The office is based out of New Delhi, India.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Head, Private Sector Partnerships and SSTC, the UN Associate Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

A. Partnership Research and Landscape Analysis
• Conduct sectoral and market research to identify potential corporate, foundation, and CSR partners aligned with WFP India’s strategic priorities.
• Map industry trends in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), CSR, climate resilience, food systems, digital transformation, and responsible AI.
• Develop internal briefs summarizing partnership opportunities and alignment with WFP programming.

B. Proposal Development and Value Proposition Design
• Support drafting of concept notes, pitch decks, and partnership proposals tailored to private sector stakeholders.
• Contribute to development of compelling value propositions by translating technical programme work into partner-facing narratives.
• Compile data, case studies, and impact evidence to strengthen proposals and reporting documents.
• Assist in adapting global WFP materials to the India context for private sector en-gagement.

C. Strategic Engagement and High-Level Event Support
• Support planning and execution of WFP India’s participation in exhibitions, summits, roundtables, panel discussions, and high-level forums (including pavilion/exhibition strategy, messaging, and content preparation).
• Prepare briefing notes, talking points, and background documents for senior leadership engagements.
• Assist in the coordination of high-level stakeholder visits.
• Document meeting minutes and track follow-up actions with partners.
• Represent and support the team at private sector events, industry forums, and stakeholder convenings, facilitating networking and relationship-building.

D. Corporate Engagement and Stakeholder Coordination
• Assist in preparing communication materials and outreach messages for private sec-tor partners.
• Support follow-up with corporate stakeholders and maintain updated partnership pipeline trackers.
• Coordinate internally with programme, IT, and communications teams to consolidate inputs for proposals and partner engagements.
• Contribute to maintaining organized knowledge repositories for partnership documentation.
• Support engagement with the WFP Trust for India, including coordination on part-nership initiatives, documentation support (MoUs, concept notes, briefs), and tracking of collaboration outcomes.

E. Monitoring, Reporting, and Knowledge Management
• Maintain internal trackers for partnership opportunities, engagement status, and re-porting deadlines.
• Support preparation of internal updates and partnership reports.
• Contribute to documentation of good practices and innovative collaboration models.

Skills and experience

Demonstrated interest and/or experience in:
• Fundraising and partnership management through Fests/ Internships
• Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Skills in:
• Research and analytical skills, including market mapping and landscape analysis.
• Proposal development, report writing, and presentation preparation.
• Stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship management.
• Event planning and coordination.
• Project management and organizational skills.
• Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and data management tools.

Living conditions

New Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region is a large and bustling metropolis of some 14 million people undergoing rapid changes. The capital city is an administrative, cultural and commercial center with modern amenities and well connected by air. It is a safe place with large expatriate community drawn from embassies, UN agencies, MNCs and foreign businesses. It has short moderate winter and long hot summer.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

For information specific to your assignment, please see below:

• Monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA): INR 56,126.74
• Entry lump sum (one-time payment): USD 350 (equivalent in INR)
• Relocation costs: $175 at the beginning and end of the assignment if the duty station is outside of commuting distance (as determined by UNV)
• Exit allowance (paid on successful completion of the assignment): $120 for each month served, paid on completion of contract
• Insurance: Comprehensive coverage for health, life, and malicious acts
• Annual leave: 2.5 days per month
