Project Context and Scope

IOM Bangladesh, established in 1998, supports the Government of Bangladesh in migration management, humanitarian assistance, and safe, orderly, and regular migration. The largest intervention is in Cox’s Bazar, supporting the Rohingya population in shelter, site management, WASH, health, and communications. To ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing, IOM intends to create a pool of interpreters to provide accurate and high-quality interpretation and translation services.

 
Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing

 
Resettlement Movement Management (RMM), Cox’s Bazar.

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contrac
1. Support Operational activities in IOM by providing childcare services to the beneficiaries’ children while their family member(s) or guardian(s) participate in the operational activities.
 
2. Provide compassionate, age-appropriate and safety-sensitive.
 
3. Lead basic learning activities and games designed for a wide range of ages, including activities and games related to the process of resettlement or family reunification.
 
4. Safeguard all materials in designated childcare areas, including toys, books, learning materials, posters and furniture. Alert the Operations staff and Cultural Orientation Facilitator if childcare materials are damaged or missing and keep the Operations staff or CO Facilitator informed of ongoing material needs.
 
5. Maintain a clean and safe childcare environment by tidying designated childcare areas throughout the workday and assisting cleaning staff members with vacuuming, dusting and removing garbage as needed.
 
6. Provide beneficiaries’ children with food and water as needed, ensuring they are consumed in a safe and hygienic manner.
 
7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned
 
Performance indicators for the evaluation of results
  • Quality of childcare provided, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and child-friendly environment.
  • Attentiveness to the physical, emotional, and developmental needs of children.
  • Compliance with child safeguarding, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and punctuality in all assignments.
  • Positive feedback from supervisors and parents/caregivers regarding the quality of childcare services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High School degree, preferably Social Sciences/Education or related discipline from and accredited academic institution with two years of experience; or
  • Secondary Education in above field with five years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ practical experience as an Childminder (Babysitter)

  • Ability to provide safe, nurturing, and age-appropriate childcare in a supportive environment.
  • Capacity to remain calm, attentive, and responsive while caring for children in a multicultural and fast-paced setting.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, patience, and commitment to child safeguarding and well-being.
  • Strong discipline, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with children, parents/caregivers, and colleagues.

 

Languages

  • Excellent command of English, Bengali, and Rohingya languages (oral and written). 
  • A third language is an added advantage.
 
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
 
Travel required
  • Yes – field visits in Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya, and Teknaf.
