How can you make a difference?

The Office of Innovation (OOI) is seeking a Communications Specialist Consultant to support the development and delivery of OOI's partnership communications, thought leadership and audience growth work. This is a delivery-focused role with clear, KPI-linked outputs: the consultant will work closely with the Partnerships team to translate OOI's partnership narratives, campaign moments and thought leadership into compelling content across owned, earned and paid channels, combining solid editorial and stakeholder-facing communications skills with a working command of digital marketing, platform algorithms and emerging AI-search practices.  

​This consultant will be part of the Partnerships and Communication Team (headquartered in Stockholm), working across OOI teams. The consultant will be remote but is required to work hours complementary to the CET time zone.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...

QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE/ COMPETENCIES (CORE/TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL) / LANGUAGE SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE ASSIGNMENT

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: An advanced university degree in communications, journalism, digital marketing, public relations, international relations, marketing or another relevant field. A first university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree
  • Work Experience: At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, digital marketing or growth marketing, advocacy, external relations or a related field, preferably within international development, the UN system, a media organisation or another global organization.
  • Demonstrated experience developing communications materials that support partnership development, stewardship or resource mobilisation, ideally within a UN, NGO, philanthropic or private-sector partnerships context.
  • Demonstrated experience growing organic and paid audiences on LinkedIn, X, Instagram and YouTube, with a track record of measurable reach and engagement growth. Prepare to share results, not just examples.
  • Working knowledge of SEO and emerging AI-search / generative engine optimisation (GEO) practices, how content is surfaced, cited and summarised by AI assistants and search tools and experience applying this to editorial or campaign content.
  • Experience managing paid digital and social campaigns, and interpreting platform and analytics data (e.g. GA4, Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, social listening tools) to inform content and channel strategy.
  • Confident, hands-on short-form video content creation and editing skills, and a good eye for what performs on fast-moving platforms without compromising editorial standards.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing global or multi-country communications strategies and leading campaigns from conception through delivery and evaluation.
  • A strong track record of producing and quality-assuring high-level external communications products across digital, editorial, media and partner channels.
  • Exceptional English-language writing, editing and editorial judgement, with the ability to translate complex technical and programmatic information into accessible, algorithm-friendly content for different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of communications within international development, including the role of innovation and technology in advancing results for children.
  • Knowledge of relevant innovation areas, including AI, data science, connectivity, digital public goods, open-source technology, entrepreneurship and gaming is desired.
  • Strong project-management and stakeholder-engagement skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, workflows, contributors, budgets and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and build consensus across diverse, multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF and the Office of Innovation's priorities, operating environment, editorial processes and partnership ecosystem is a strong asset.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Competence in French and/or Spanish is a strong asset
