Mission and objectives
In its resolution 72/279 of 31 May 2018, the General Assembly created a dedicated, impartial empowered and sustainable development-focused coordination function for the United Nations development system, drawing on the expertise and assets of all United Nations development system entities, including specialized and non-resident agencies.
The Resident Coordinator system ensures the coordination of all organizations of the United Nations dealing with operational activities for development at the country level, regardless of the nature of their presence in the country. It encompasses the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team and Resident Coordinator’s Office and is served by the UN Development Coordination Office.
Assignment context
Four Online Volunteers will support the UNCG Pacific Secretariat in designing and producing a visually engaging digital storybook that effectively presents the stories and messages contained within the publication.
Working closely with the UNCG Pacific Secretariat team, the volunteers will help transform written content into a professional digital publication suitable for online dissemination and stakeholder engagement.
Task description
Under the guidance of the UNCG Pacific Secretariat team, four Online Volunteers will support in:
Design Concept Development
• Review content and supporting visual materials provided by the UNCG Pacific Secretariat.
• Develop design concepts and visual approaches for the publication.
• Propose layouts, typography, colour schemes and graphic elements.
• Present mock-ups for review and feedback.
Publication Layout and Design
• Support in designing the overall structure and visual identity of the publication.
• Support layout design of approximately 30 stories and accompanying images.
• Create section divider pages for each of the four priority areas.
• Incorporate photographs, pull quotes, captions and graphic elements where appropriate.
• Ensure a consistent and professional visual style throughout the publication.
Digital Publication Production
• Prepare the publication for digital viewing and online distribution.
• Ensure readability and accessibility across digital platforms.
• Optimise page formatting and navigation for electronic use.
Revision and Finalisation
• Participate in feedback and review discussions.
• Incorporate revisions based on consolidated comments from the UNCG Pacific Secretariat.
• Finalise the publication for approval and dissemination.

Expected Deliverables
Deliverable 1: Design Mock-ups
Week 1
The volunteers will provide:
• Initial design concepts and visual direction.
• Sample cover design options.
• Sample story page layouts.
• Examples of section divider pages and graphic treatments.
Output:
• Mock-up designs submitted for review and selection.

Week 2
The volunteers will:
• Support in developing the complete publication layout using the agreed design concept.
• Insert all content and images provided by the UNCG Pacific Secretariat.
• Submit a complete draft publication for review.
Output:
• Full draft digital publication.

Deliverable 3: Final Publication
Week 3
The volunteers will:
• Revise the publication based on feedback received during the vetting process.
• Undertake final formatting and quality checks.
• Submit the completed publication.
Output:
• Final digital publication.
• Editable design files and packaged assets where applicable.

Publication Scope
The publication is expected to include:
• Approximately 30 stories.
• Four thematic sections aligned with the four priority areas of the pre-COP agenda.
• Cover page.
• Introductory or foreword section.
• Contents page.
• Section divider pages.
• Story layouts.
• Photographs and captions.
• Pull quotes and visual highlights.
• Closing and acknowledgement pages.
The final publication is anticipated to be approximately 60-80 pages, depending on content and design. Tasks will be divided between Online Volunteers and collaboration is encouraged.
All final products will remain the intellectual property of the UNCG Pacific Secretariat
Skills and experience
• Experience in graphic design and publication layout.
• Strong skills in Adobe InDesign, Canva, Affinity Publisher, or similar design software.
• Experience designing reports, magazines, storybooks, newsletters or digital publications.
• A strong eye for visual storytelling and presentation.
• Ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
