Work Location

Expected duration
2 months
Duties and Responsibilities
Scope and Objectives The Arab Trade Simulator Interface (ATSI), developed by ESCWA in 2020, covered 18 Arab countries individually, along with a limited number of trading partners. Since the development of the first version of ATSI, several Arab countries have approached ESCWA to develop tailored versions of the simulator to meet the specific analytical needs of their respective ministries. In response to a request from the Tunisian Ministry of Commerce and Export Development, ESCWA developed a customized national version known as the Global Economywide Trade Simulator Interface (GETSI Tunisia). Unlike the original ATSI, which relies on a standardized sectoral and geographical classification, GETSI Tunisia reflects the Ministry’s specific requirements regarding sectoral disaggregation and the individual representation of trading partners. The purpose of this consultancy is to further revise the beta version of GETSI Tunisia by adjusting its sectoral and geographical coverage to reflect the Ministry’s requirements regarding the sectors and trading partners to be represented individually in the simulator. The consultancy will also update the baseline scenario to incorporate the latest available projections for GDP and other key exogenous variables for Tunisia and the rest of the world. Activities and tasks The consultant is expected to undertake the following tasks: 1. Assist ESCWA’s team in revising the global database used for the beta version of GETSI Tunisia by adjusting the geographical and sectoral aggregation to reflect the comments and recommendations received from the Tunisian Ministry of Commerce and Export Development. 2. Recalibrate GETSI Tunisia using the revised global database, including the updated interlinked Social Accounting Matrices (SAMs), and incorporate the latest available projections for key exogenous variables. 3. Test the model’s functionality and performance through the implementation of selected simulations and the validation of the results. 4. Provides any additional files that may be required for uploading the model on GAMS-MIRO.
