Consultant Security Information Analyst

As part of UNDSS efforts to identify threats and risks in a timely manner in the area, country and region, this position forms part of UNDSS Security Information and Operations in Nairobi. The Consultant Security Information Analyst (CSIA) will manage security-relevant information, including its collection, collation, analysis and dissemination, for use as a decision-making and planning tool by the UN Designated Official and Security Management Team. The work will help enhance the safety and security of UN personnel, assets and operations in Nairobi. The CSIA will maintain awareness of all security-related information that could affect the safety and security of the United Nations. This includes monitoring security incidents, daily situation reports, local media and other open sources, and cultivating an information-gathering and information-sharing network in accordance with UN policy and guidelines.

This position is located in Department of Safety and Security in Nairobi, Kenya. Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Principal Security Adviser and Deputy Security Adviser and Chief, the Consultant will be responsible for researching, gathering, collating, analyzing and disseminating security-relevant information for Kenya and relevant neighboring countries. This information will support decision-making and planning by the Department of Safety and Security. The Consultant Security Information Analyst (CSIA) will maintain awareness of security information that could affect the safety and security of the United Nations. This includes monitoring security incidents, daily situation reports, local media and other open sources, and developing an information-gathering and information-sharing network in accordance with UN policy and guidelines, under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Operations Officer.

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, military studies, international relations or a related field is required. A first-level university degree, in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree may also be substituted with a diploma from a police or military education institution, college or academy obtained over a minimum period of three years. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in applied military, police, or political predictive analysis is required, of which a minimum of two years must have been gained through international experience in a multilateral organization in the field of criminology or corporate security. Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable. Experience in analyzing trends in security incidents affecting UNSMS organizations within East and Central Africa is required. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.
