Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

To support evidence-based policymaking and advocacy, UN Women develops and disseminates a range of regional and country-level knowledge products, including SDG Gender Snapshots, research studies on femicide, violence against women data products, policy briefs, and other thematic publications. These products rely on robust analysis of gender data and evidence to identify trends, monitor progress, and highlight persistent gaps affecting women and girls across Europe and Central Asia.

Assignment context

UN Women ECARO seeks an Online UN Volunteer on Gender Data Analysis to support the compilation, analysis and interpretation of gender data and evidence from multiple data sources. A particular area of support during the assignment will be the preparation of data and evidence for UN Women's regional 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, that illustrates gaps between the prevalence of violence against women, reporting to authorities, investigations, prosecutions and justice outcomes across Europe and Central Asia.
The Volunteer will work under the guidance of the Regional Gender Statistics Specialist to help strengthen evidence generation and support the preparation of data-driven knowledge products and advocacy materials.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Gender Statistics Specialist, the Online UN Volunteer will:

• Support the compilation of available global, regional and national data related to crime and violence against women, reporting, investigation, prosecution, conviction and sen-tencing outcomes.
• Prepare statistical summaries, data tables, charts and analytical briefs highlighting key findings and trends on Gender Equality various thematic topics
• Contribute to the development of evidence-based key messages and findings for knowledge products and communications outputs, including within the 16 days against gender-based violence campaign.
• Collaborate with programme, research and communications colleagues to ensure accura-cy and consistency of data and evidence.
• Support other related data analysis and research tasks as required.


Deliverables:
• Compiled global/regional/national dataset and background evidence supporting the re-gional campaign on access to Justice.
• Analytical summaries and briefs highlighting key gender trends and findings from avail-able datasets/reports.
• Compiled and organized datasets supporting regional and country-level analysis by se-lected thematic areas.
• Data tables, statistical summaries and background materials for reports, publications and presentations.
• Inputs to regional knowledge products, including SDG Gender Snapshots, violence against women analyses and thematic reports.

Skills and experience

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in statistics, economics, data science, social sciences, public policy, gender studies, demography or any other related field.

Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of experience in research, data analysis, statistics, social research, economics, or related fields.
• Experience collecting, compiling, cleaning and analyzing quantitative data.
• Experience preparing analytical summaries, research briefs, reports or evidence reviews.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel, statistical software, database management, or other analytical tools is required.
• Familiarity with social development data or evidence-based policymaking is considered an asset.
• Previous volunteer, academic, internship or professional experience with UN agencies, international organizations, government institutions, research organizations or develop-ment partners is considered an asset.

Language:
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
