Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace, and security.

Assignment context

Under the Egypt/UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 and the Entity’s portfolio therein, UN Women implements its triple mandate of supporting normative standard-setting to advance gender equality and women's empowerment, implementing national and grassroots programmes grounded in international norms and best practices in partnership with national stakeholders, and strengthening UN system coordination. Over two decades of work in the country has resulted in UN Women ECO consolidating its expertise, partnerships, and investments around three main areas of work: women's leadership and system-wide support to advancing gender equality; women's economic empowerment; and eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls, including harmful practices.

In support of the Arab Republic of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women (NSEEW), the work of the UN Women Egypt Country Office (ECO) is grounded in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA).

Reporting to the Head of Programmes, and under the overall supervision of the Deputy Representative and Head of Programme, the UNV Data and Reporting Analyst will contribute to incorporating monitoring and reporting into programme formulation as well tracking against Strategic Plan targets and the reporting of results to internal and external audiences as well as liaise with the UN Women Regional Office on the new Track-it! Information Management System.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Programmes, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

• Provide technical inputs to the monitoring and tracking of results against country/regional level targets and UN Women Strategic Plan

- Coordinate with Programme Team to ensure data collection and analysis from field visits are coordinated and standardized across programmes;
- Monitor data from partners/countries on a quarterly basis and provide inputs to regular management briefs to inform decision making;
- Visit partners, along with the Programme Team, to support monitoring of results and planning processes, as required;
- Monitor the spending of donor funds and other programme expenditures and disbursements;


• Facilitate the reporting of results to internal (Senior Management) and external (Executive Board, Donors) audiences

- Contribute with substantial inputs to donor and programme reports (narrative);
- Identify relevant evaluation findings, conclusions and recommendations and input them into programme reporting;
- Review progress reports submitted by partners and provide feedback to improve quality and timeliness of reporting;
- Collect and maintain data for country, regional and global corporate reports, mid-term reviews, and final evaluations;

Skills and experience

Demonstrated interest and/or experience in:

- Gender equality and women's empowerment.
- Data analysis
- Monitoring and reporting
- Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.


Skills in:

- English writing and reporting.
- Usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
- Handling of web-based management systems
- Usage of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud

Living conditions

The UNV will be based in Cairo which is a family duty station (level A) with a wide range of services (health, education and leisure) and good living conditions. There are a variety of options in regard to type of housing and neighbourhoods in Cairo. The Country office is located in the neighbourhood of Maadi, which offers a large international community, several restaurants, cafes, and recreation possibilities. Cairo international airport is well connected to the region, Europe and Africa, and Asia.
