Mission and objectives

Who we are?

UNDP has worked in Mozambique since 1976, with the formalization of a cooperation agreement between UNDP and the Government of Mozambique. The Standard Basic Framework Agreement was signed in 1976, in less than a year after Independence, and establishes UNDP’s presence in the country.

What do we want to accomplish?

Programme priorities have been defined with national counterparts. UNDP focus is aligned with UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025, namely, a) Structural transformation accelerated, particularly green, inclusive, and digital transitions, b) No one left behind centering on equitable access to opportunities and a rights-based approach to human agency and human development, c) resilience built to respond to systemic uncertainty and risk and its six signatures solutions, Poverty and inequality; Governance; Resilience; Environment, Energy and Gender equality, focusing on three interlinked and transformative pillars:

Supporting resilient and inclusive economic recovery and diversification, and sustainable livelihoods;

Strengthening climate resilience and the sustainable use of natural resources;

Promoting inclusive governance, justice, human rights and peace and social cohesion.

We are working with the Government of Mozambique, academia, civil society, private sector, and other national and international partners to help find solutions to persistent and emerging development challenges.

Assignment context

The Ministry of Economy, UNDP Mozambique and UNESCO are organising a Tourism Business Breakfast in Maputo on 10 November 2026, under the theme “Connecting actors to unlock tourism initiatives in Mozambique”.

The event will bring together public and private sector stakeholders and development partners to discuss tourism initiatives, identify obstacles to their implementation or expansion, and explore practical next steps. It will use a World Café format, with four discussion themes: skills and workforce; nature-based tourism; cultural and creative tourism; and branding, marketing and access.

The agenda and thematic discussion cards will help participants understand the event flow and engage in focused discussions.

Task description

Under the supervision of UNDP Mozambique’s Inclusive Growth Unit, the Online Volunteer will design four thematic discussion cards and the event agenda for the Tourism Business Breakfast. The organising team will provide the text, questions and event information.

Each card should present the theme, a brief contextualization, a guiding question and supporting questions. The agenda should clearly show the event schedule and session flow. Materials should follow UNDP branding guidelines and be easy to read on screen and in print.

The volunteer will deliver editable design files and final print-ready PDFs, incorporating one round of feedback from the organizing team.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate should have experience in graphic design or visual communication, particularly in preparing event materials or discussion guides. Proficiency in Canva, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, PowerPoint or similar design tools is required.

The candidate should be able to organise information clearly, maintain visual consistency and prepare editable materials for print and digital use. Portuguese is required; experience working with Portuguese–English materials is an asset. Previous experience with UN, NGO or development-related materials is an advantage.

Full eligibility requirements, conditions of service and application instructions are available on the official UNV platform.
