Mission and objectives

Established in 1965, UNDP is the United Nations’ global development network, operating in nearly 170 countries and territories. The UN Volunteer will be part of the UNDP RBEC Chief Economist Team at the Istanbul Regional Hub, working closely with the Chief Economist and other economists on the region’s green growth agenda. Decarbonization and the development of green skills, particularly in light industry, are central to the region’s transition to a low-carbon economy and to Sustainable Development Goal progress. The UN Volunteer will support the team’s analytical and statistical work on these themes, contributing to knowledge products, data analysis, and policy recommendations that inform UNDP’s regional programming.

This assignment offers exposure to UNDP’s economic analysis and policy work in an international setting, with mentorship from senior economists.

Task description

- Financial Modeling & Scenario Analysis: Develop and maintain Excel-based dashboards and financial models for tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), portfolio allocation, and conducting stress-testing or sensitivity analysis to support investment decision-making.

- Technical Advisory & Decision Support: Prepare decision-support reports, technical notes, and market briefs that combine macroeconomic signals, fundamental analysis, and market sentiment to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.

- Data-driven Reporting & Knowledge Products: Synthesize complex quantitative data and analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders, including drafting analytical briefs, journal papers and creating presentations for strategic decision-making.

- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to translate analytical outputs into actionable programmatic adjustments and present financial findings in virtual coordination meetings.

Skills and experience

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field is required.

Expertise in Financial Analysis: Demonstrated experience in equity research, financial statement analysis, valuation (DCF, multiples), and applying quantitative methods for forecasting and risk assessment.

Financial Modeling: Proven ability to build and maintain complex financial models, dashboards, and stress-test scenarios using Advanced Excel.

Statistical and Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python (including libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow) for data analysis and machine learning/deep learning applications is highly desirable. Experience with time-series forecasting (ARIMA/SARIMA) is an asset.

Capital Markets Knowledge: In-depth understanding of capital market instruments, including equities, funds, and fixed-income products.

Project Management: Familiarity with project management principles (PM, RBM/M&E), and experience with project delivery and reporting is an advantage.

Communication: Strong ability to translate complex analytical outputs into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
