Mission and objectives

The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) is a statutory body established to coordinate, promote, support, and advocate for youth development initiatives across Malawi. As the leading institution for youth affairs, NYCOM works to empower young people by creating opportunities for participation, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, skills development, and socio-economic advancement.

Through strategic partnerships with government, development partners, civil society organizations, and the private sector, NYCOM champions policies and programs that enhance the welfare and potential of Malawi’s youth. The Council serves as a platform that amplifies the voices of young people, ensuring their active involvement in national development processes and decision-making.

Assignment context

To provide professional graphic design support to the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) to strengthen the quality, consistency and visibility of its communication materials across digital and print platforms.
The assignment will support the development of engaging visual materials that effectively communicate NYCOM programmes, activities, opportunities and key messages to young people and stakeholders.

Task description

Designing social media graphics, posters, banners, infographics and other communication materials.
Developing visual concepts based on briefs provided by NYCOM.
Adapting designs for different digital and print formats.
Ensuring consistency with NYCOM’s visual identity and communication standards.
Making revisions based on feedback from the NYCOM team.
Preparing final artwork in appropriate formats for digital publication and printing.
Supporting the development of visual materials for major NYCOM events and campaigns when required.

Skills and experience

Diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design, Communications or a related field.
At least 2 years of relevant graphic design experience.
Demonstrated experience designing content for social media and digital platforms.
Experience developing posters, banners, infographics and other promotional materials.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva or comparable design software.
Strong understanding of typography, layout, colour, branding and visual storytelling.
Ability to interpret creative briefs and translate ideas into effective visual content.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and respond to feedback.
Experience working with NGOs, government institutions, youth organisations or development programmes will be an advantage.
A portfolio demonstrating previous work is required.
