Mission and objectives

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity on human rights. OHCHR’s mission is to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented.

Assignment context

The Online UN Volunteer for social media will support the OHCHR New York Office in implementing its communications and advocacy activities. Working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO), the volunteer will contribute to the creation of social media posts to give visibility to the work of the UN Human Rights Office in New York.

Task description

The OHCHR New York Office is seeking one (1) Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and in close collaboration with relevant colleagues, will support the production of visual communications materials.

In particular, the Online Volunteer will be asked to:
• Create draft designs based on agreed communications requirements and discuss concepts with the focal point;
• Develop and revise visual products in accordance with feedback and approved specifications;
• Produce design and layout for social media assets and event materials;
• The Online Volunteer will support the production of up to five visual graphic designs in total during the assignment.

All design products should follow OHCHR's visual identity and branding guidelines, which will be shared with the Online Volunteer.

Skills and experience

Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts, and must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. Experience in video editing and motion graphics animation would be considered an asset. A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset with at least two years of relevant professional experience in multi-media and communication. A strong background in media and communications tools with an emphasis on communication campaigns is an advantage.


TOOLS & LICENSES
• Access to tools like Canva, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and other multimedia creation tools will not be provided. Applicants must have their own access to the necessary tools to produce the required output for this role.

SKILLS
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint;
• Proficiency in design software and social media platforms preferred;
• Ability to work independently but with strong interpersonal skills;
• Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines.
