Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is the specialized agency of the United Nations for agriculture (including livestock, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture), food, and rural development, leading global efforts to achieve food security for all, defeat hunger, and promote sustainable natural resource use. FAO’s global vision is for a world free from hunger and malnutrition where food and agriculture contribute to improving the living standards of all, especially the poorest, in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner. Achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO's efforts to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active and healthy lives.
FAO’s mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations, and contribute to the growth of the world economy. In line with this mandate, FAO country offices, headed by a FAO Representative, assist governments in developing policies, programmes, and projects to achieve food security, reduce hunger and malnutrition, promote the sustainable development of agriculture, fisheries, and forestry, and manage environmental and natural resources responsibly.
The position is located in the FAO Representation in Asmara, Eritrea.
Reporting lines
The incumbent works under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Administration).
Technical Focus
In his/her function as Human Resources Support for the relevant Office, the incumbent works in close collaboration with the Regional Human Resources Unit, and in consultation with relevant HR Units as required. The Human Resources Support is responsible for coordinating and executing administrative tasks related to the hiring of national and international affiliate workforce, in accordance with FAO rules and regulations.
Tasks and responsibilities
The Human Resources Support performs the following functions within the framework of the country programme:
• Support the overall hiring plan for hiring of national and international affiliate workforce.
• Assist in the preparation and review of Terms of Reference of affiliate workforce and ensure compliance with current standards and regulations.
• Support the publication of calls to attract candidates for vacancies related to national and international affiliate workforce, ensuring proper dissemination to attract qualified talent.
• Assist in organizing the selection process, including coordinating interviews with the selection panel and preparing reports on evaluated candidates.
• Process the complete cycle of contracts for national and international affiliate workforce in the Global Resource Management System (GRMS), ensuring the collection and verification of required documentation.
• Monitor the validity of contracts for national and international affiliate workforce in and support follow-up actions in coordination with supervisors for renewal or termination as necessary.
• Provide administrative support, including recording worked hours for the payment of fees to national and international consultants and other related tasks.
• Support initiatives that promote a respectful and harmonious work environment, aligned with the organization's values and commitments.
• Contribute knowledge exchange and best practices within the office, promoting collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Provide administrative support in the performance evaluation process of national and international consultants, providing logistical and administrative support for the preparation and recording of their performance evaluation reports (QAR).
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Perform other tasks as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Completed secondary school education, preferably complemented by training or technical courses in programme/project support, administration, or data management.
• Four years of related work experience, including in supporting administrative work related to Human Resources management.
o Clerical and/or programme experience, including analysing, processing and editing of information and data and record keeping.
• Language working knowledge (Proficient-level C) of English and Working knowledge of the local language of the country.
• National of Eritrea.
• Candidate should provide evidence of completion/exemption from National Services
• National of Eritrea or resident of the country with valid work permit

• UN experience is an advantage.
