Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Global Alliance Unit, in the Executive Direction and Management Division (EDM) of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent reports to the Coordinator of the Global Alliance for Human Rights, a time-bound initiative to mobilize support for human rights marking the 80th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This is a temporary position that contributes substantively to the development, coordination, and operationalization of the Global Alliance's strategic objectives, including stakeholder engagement, advocacy, innovation, digital project management, and substantive human rights engagement.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Human Rights Officer will be responsible for the following duties: ● Contributes to the development and implementation of stakeholder-engagement strategies for the Global Alliance for Human Rights, identifying opportunities for collaboration and maintaining relationships with Member States, United Nations entities, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations and other partners, ensuring a multi-region, multisector and intergenerational approach. ● Supports assigned catalytic initiatives and activations of the Global Alliance for Human Rights, including translating strategic direction into workplans, deliverables and partner follow-up. ● Contributes to the development and operationalization of the Global Alliance digital platform, coordinating requirements, content, user needs, timelines, testing, and follows up with internal and external counterparts to support delivery. ● Contributes to developing and administering procedures and digital solutions for participation in the Global Alliance. ● Provides substantive advice on international human rights standards, stakeholder engagement, and drafts briefing notes, talking points, presentations, and other written materials for the High Commissioner for Human Rights and other senior officials. ● Liaises with OHCHR divisions, regional and field presences, as well as United Nations partners, helps organize consultations and meetings; and monitors implementation. ● Contributes to advocacy, communications, events and reporting for the Global Alliance; collects and analyses information on engagement, participation and pledges; identifies lessons and opportunities for innovation; and performs other related duties as required. ● Manages junior staff, consultants, and contractors as required.

Ability to produce clear, concise and persuasive analyses, briefings and other written outputs. Demonstrates the ability to translate user and programme needs into practical digital solutions and to coordinate the development, testing and improvement of digital products and processes. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across UN entities and external partners. Experience in supervising and mentoring staff at the professional and general service levels.
Education
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in human rights, law, political science, international relations, social sciences, public policy, or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law, or a related area is required. A minimum of 2 years experience in stakeholder engagement for an international campaign, including with States, civil society organization, national human rights institutions, and the private sector is required. Experience with the development and management of innovative digital platforms or products is required. Experience in advising and supporting high-ranking officials is required. Experience working with international human rights mechanisms is required. Experience managing a team of at least two staff is desirable Experience supporting high-level events is desirable
