UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled—ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully included and never left behind.
On the ground in about 150 countries, home to 80 per cent of the world’s population, the Fund acts as a catalyst for equitable progress. Ensuring sustainable and inclusive financing for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in the current economic landscape requires greater reliance on domestic public resources, strategic private-public partnerships, and innovative approaches. These efforts accelerate the shift from funding to financing the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) agenda, with a commitment to reaching marginalized populations, including individuals with disabilities.
Working under the supervision of the Programme Specialist for Disability Inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region, three Online Volunteers will support UNFPA’s efforts to strengthen regional knowledge management and promote disability-inclusive programming.
By systematically reviewing and consolidating information on disability inclusion initiatives across the region, the Online Volunteers will contribute to a shared repository of knowledge, evidence and good practices. This work will help make country-level achievements and effective approaches more accessible to UNFPA Country Offices, enabling colleagues to learn from and adapt relevant practices to their own contexts.
Through this cross-country knowledge-sharing process, the assignment will contribute to advancing disability inclusion across Asia and the Pacific and support UNFPA’s broader commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), equality and the inclusion of marginalized populations, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind.
Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist for Disability Inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region, Online Volunteers will support UNFPA's regional knowledge management efforts by reviewing and consolidating information on disability inclusion initiatives across the region.
The assignment will help organize existing country-level information, identify documented achievements and good practices, and make relevant evidence more accessible to UNFPA colleagues. The resulting materials will support regional knowledge sharing and help Country Offices learn from approaches that may be adapted to their own contexts.
3 Online Volunteers will support in:
- Review and analyze disability inclusion reports submitted by Asia-Pacific Regional Office (APRO) and UNFPA Country Offices, systematically consolidating the data and achievements by UNFPA outcomes.
- Liaise directly with Country Offices and relevant technical colleagues to clarify project details, gather missing information, and ensure accurate representation of regional initiatives.
- Review reports and conduct online research to identify disability inclusion activities in Asia Pacific region countries that have not submitted reports, proactively reaching out to those offices to capture undocumented progress in disability inclusion.
- Design, populate, and maintain a comprehensive database and visual mapping system to track country-level reporting status, project outcomes, and good practices across the Asia-Pacific region.
- Volunteers may be asked to participate in virtual coordination or review meetings with UNFPA.
APRO is looking for candidates with a background in fields like social sciences, public health, or human rights who are genuinely passionate about disability inclusion, ideally bringing lived experience. Because this role involves diving into various reports, Online Volunteers should be natural researchers who enjoy connecting the dots, analyzing data, and organizing information. Friendly and effective communication skills are a must, and candidates should be comfortable using database and mapping tools to visually showcase the region's progress in a way that’s clear, accessible, and easy for others to learn from.
- Experience in desk research, literature reviews, information management, data consolidation, or report writing.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, including the ability to extract relevant information from multiple sources and present findings clearly and accurately.
- Strong written communication skills in English, with attention to detail and the ability to summarize complex information concisely.
- Familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, or data visualization and mapping tools.
- An interest in disability inclusion, human rights, gender equality, and inclusive development.
- Experience or familiarity with disability-inclusive programming in international development or humanitarian contexts is an asset. Lived experience of disability is welcome but is not required.
