Full job description
Result of Service
The main objective of this study is to identify key sites for designing and implementing a variety of public spaces in Nahr el Bared camp. The study will ensure that public space projects implemented in the camp will work together in a complementary manner as part of a public spatial structure that can enrich the entire camps urban fabric – and is not an implementation of isolated public projects scattered across miscellaneous locations. It will also investigate what constitutes as successful public space within the specific realities in NBC and what are the main public space community needs through studying various realities and social practices on the ground today. This project will revisit the ideas on public space that were initially conceived in 2007-2009 (yet not implemented) in order to determine which of those ideas are still feasible, which need adaptation and what opportunities were missed. It will also factor in the tremendous developments that have been made in the past 18 years that will have significant impact on public space design and planning. These relate to changing social, economic, political and security related conditions within the camp and its surroundings. Three main Zones will be part of this investigation, the official UNRWA Nahr el Bared Camp; Edges/Borders of the official Nahr el Bared Camp; Adjacent Areas.
