The objective of the assignment is to assess the feasibility for UNMAS to mobilize resources and establish sustainable strategic partnerships, from organisations and donors that are not Member States. The training programme will focus on three main thematic areas: (i) Corporate Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships; (ii) High net worth; and (iii) Family Trusts, Foundations and Philanthropic Giving. The objective of the Consultant is to design and deliver a practical and interactive training programme that enhances participants’ understanding of fundraising and partnership development, enables the identification of new funding opportunities and supports the development of an organizational approach to resource mobilization.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of the Policy, Advocacy, Donor Relations and Outreach Section, the consultant will undertake a detailed analysis of the viability and options for UNMAS to access non-traditional funding, assess UNMAS current capabilities to do so and make recommendations on options to further develop and make operational the capacity to secure Private Sector funding. The assessment should include consideration of corporate fundraising, public-private partnerships, philanthropic giving, family trusts, foundations and impact investing. The consultant will provide high-level specialized analysis and recommendations drawing on significant professional expertise. This will include: a) Desk review of relevant organizational documentation and systems, including strategic plans, fundraising materials, annual reports, partnership strategies and other background materials provided by the organization. b) Survey UNMAS understanding of non-traditional funding opportunities and processes and capacity to deliver in this area. c) Evaluate current UNMAS organizational capacities, challenges and opportunities relating to Private Sector fundraising: Including through the conduct of consultations and interviews with designated staff members, partners, related UN entities and other relevant stakeholders. d) Assess current Mine Action sector utilisation of non-traditional funding avenues including consideration of which entities have been accessing Private Sector funding, market capacity, organisational differentiation and opportunity landscape. e) Deliver and present a detailed assessment report with recommendations to inform the potential design of a future UNMAS Private Sector fundraising strategy, including a scaled range of options for engagement, resourcing and timelines for each approach and an analysis of route to deliver, timelines and risks. Deliverables Deadline Deliverables (# days) Oct/ Nov: Detailed analytical report on Private Sector opportunities for UNMAS, including current and potential organizational capabilities, and current private sector market status. (16 days) Nov: Options and Recommendations on UNMAS Private Sector Partnership strategy. (2 days) Nov/Dec: Presentation to UNMAS leadership on analysis, report and recommendations. (1 day)
Qualifications/special skills
• Advanced university degree, master’s degree or equivalent, in social sciences, international relations, development, public administration, humanitarian affairs or a related field is required. • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in Private Sector Fundraising. Expertise and up-to-date knowledge of donor acquisition channels (Face-to-Face, Digital, Mail and DRTV desirable), donor retention and donor development methods is required. • Previous work experience in the United Nations in a Private Sector Partnerships, or very closely related function is required. • Proven experience in developing Private Sector partnerships strategies and of analysing opportunities for and implementation routes for Private Sector fundraising. • Possess expertise and up-to-date knowledge of existing and new fundraising/partnership management techniques, and of major trends in the philanthropic landscape is desirable. • Ability to produce high-quality written materials tailored to specific audiences is desirable.
