Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will undertake extensive travels to Kuajok, Aweil, Rumbek and Torit to engage with a wide range of local stakeholders. The Consultant will work under the overall supervision of the Director, Civil Affairs Division, and in close coordination with the Project Manager/Coordinator. • Conduct consultations / assessment of CSO needs across all four target states. • Develop draft toolkit covering protection of civilians (PoC), political processes, civic education, conflict management, project management, hate speech and mis/disinformation mitigation, media literacy, and conflict-sensitive communication including practical tools, checklists and templates. • Validate toolkit with CSOs and stakeholders and incorporate feedback before finalization. • Finalize and reproduce a user-friendly toolkit / produce accessible print and electronic versions. • Conduct dissemination workshops (4 dissemination workshops, 1 per state) including demonstrating how CSOs can practically use the toolkit. • Monitor application of the toolkit. • Capture examples of application and lessons learned.
Qualifications/special skills
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or peacebuilding/conflict management; or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related area is required. • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in reconciliation or in areas of peacebuilding, civic space or conflict management is required. • Proven experience as a consultant is a requirement • Proven knowledge in designing training manuals/toolkits is required • Extensive field experience, especially in conflict and/or post-conflict settings; prior experience in South Sudan is desirable • Demonstrable ability to engage with sensitivity, strategic foresight, and political acumen in situations involving multiple actors and stakeholders from antagonistic ethnic communities and political factions is desirable.
Languages
• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
