Mission and objectives

UNAMA was established in 2002 as a Political/ Peacebuilding Mission, exceptionally) directed and supported by the UN Department of
Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).

Assignment context

This mandate tasks UNAMA with the promotion and support of humanitarian assistance in line with humanitarian principles, human rights, equality for women and girls, inclusive governance, resilience, and economic stability, and with the use of our good offices for principled and constructive engagement with all national, regional, and global stakeholders in the pursuit of Afghanistan’s peace and stability.

UNAMA reaffirms its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national unity of Afghanistan; as well as its continued support for the people of Afghanistan, within the framework of the UN Charter and other international laws and instruments.

On 15 June 2026, UNAMA’s mandate was extended for another year by UN Security Council Resolution 2727 (2026).

Task description

Within the delegation of authority and under the supervising of the Chief Property Management or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Property Management Assistant will: Assists the Property Management Unit with planning property management operations, monitor progress through statistical analysis of Umoja/ECC records and monthly progress reports for the unit. Ensures accurate tracking of existing fixed assets and equipment, implements, monitors and conduct the periodic 100% physical verification process in Kabul and travel to the UNAMA regional offices for physical inspection. Assist with Board of Surveys (BOS) for assets with write off status, as well as disposal activities of UN Property. Support other units within property management in the areas of receiving and inspection, property control, insurance and reporting as and when required. Maintain accurate and auditable records, in electronic format, for accountability of UN Property in the mission in conformance with Administrative Instructions, LDS/DFS guidelines. Assists in the utilization and enhancement, as required, of the established business intelligence (BI) and management tools to monitor and evaluate the overall progress of the Mission's property management. Assists in the preparation of accurate and auditable statistical reports for management in missions and LSD/DFS and drafts correspondence, as required; Identifies current and potential issues and implements solutions to problematic areas related to Property Management; Assists with the maintenance/data quality check, register by recording information related to fixed assets, ensures accuracy and integrity of property records; Assists with the preparation and verification of periodic IPSAS financial reports on Property Plant and Equipment (PP&E) and Inventory (Year-end reports, Monthly reports); Monitor and Prepare quarterly property management key performance reports (KPIs) to be submitted to the Global Asset Management Policy Service (GAMPS) as per the LSD Guidelines; Performs other duties as required by the Chief of Property Management Unit.

Skills and experience

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of property management and general administration.
Knowledge of automated information systems applicable to archives, libraries, records management and information networks
Knowledge in SAP is desirable
