Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) at Vienna, Austria. The intern will work within the Publications, Outreach and Common Services team of the office.The position is for a period of six months starting from approximately October 2026. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The intern will work five days per week (40 hours). Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the team leader within the Publications, Outreach and Common Services team and strategic guidance of the Chief of Branch, the intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: Multimedia editing & data visualization • Contribute to the multimedia production work of the office by designing digital and printed communication materials, including presentations, infographics, brochures, posters, banners, flyers, publications and other documents using design software (such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, Trello etc.). • Edit and produce videos, podcasts, and audio content. • Creates simple data visualizations for internal or external use, supports UX/UI optimization of websites and office products. • Support the office’s disarmament and non-proliferation education work through updating, localization and quality assurance of e-learning materials. • Provide research and editing support for learning content development and updates, including AI-enabled tools. Public outreach & event organization • Assist in developing campaigns and public outreach events and initiatives, including visual and written content for the office’s webpages and social media platforms. • Support development of multimedia stories and digital campaigns. Upload and publish content on websites and education platforms. • Assist in managing the office’s social media accounts. Monitor social media engagement data and contribute ideas to expand audience reach. • Support the substantive and logistical organization and coverage of in-person, hybrid and online events. Assist with photos, filming, and preparing promotional material.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: •Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).(OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); •Be computer literate in standard software applications; •Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and •Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. We are open to a broad range of educational and professional backgrounds. Applicants must be proficient in standard office software systems, especially MS Office 360. Applicants must be proficient in graphic design editing software applications (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, Trello) and have experience with photo and video editing. Experience in the use of learning management systems (LMS) and e-learning software (e.g. Articulate 360) is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
