Org. Setting and Reporting
The Senior Advisor position is located in the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO) and reports to the UNSCO Head of Mission.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, Senior Advisor will be responsible for the following duties: • Provide advice to the Special Coordinator on all political matters, assisting him in the discharge of his overall responsibilities as Head of Mission, including in the discharge of their representational responsibilities, through providing political and other advice as well as support on operational and substantive issues as requested by the Special Coordinator. • Identify, analyze and monitor political, security and operational developments and emerging issues with respect to the implementation of UNSCO’s political mandate; Assess implications and make recommendations to the Head of Mission on possible strategies, policies and other measures to address issues of concern drawing on UNSCO’s resources and political analysis, while incorporating an integrated approach that includes a rights-based dimension and conflict prevention sensitivity. • Ensure regular, timely and high-quality reporting to the Special Coordinator on developments and issues pertaining to UNSCO’s political mandate; • Provide input into analytical reports, including situation reports, briefing notes, notes to file and code cables; Review and provide input for draft reports and briefings of the Secretary-General and the Special Coordinator to the Security Council and the General Assembly. • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships, at the appropriate level and under the overall guidance of the Special Coordinator, with Israeli and Palestinian authorities, political parties, political and community leaders, civil society actors, and other national and international partners, including Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025) mandated structures for Gaza. • Develop and maintain close collaboration and interaction with the UN Country Team in the Occupied Palestinian Territory with regard to political matters. • Collaborate with United Nations offices and missions in the region and engage regional and international actors on regional and global initiatives, in pursuit of mandated objectives. • Perform other relevant duties, as requested by the Special Coordinator.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law, social sciences or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
Over 15 years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, including supporting conflict mediation, political transitions, post-conflict peacebuilding, development, and governance reforms is required Experience in the UN’s political engagement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and in the region is required. Experience in program management (including human resource management, administration, logistics, financial and budget related issues) is required

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
