1.      Organizational Context

 

 

a.    Organizational Setting

 

The post is located in the Standards Section of the International Classifications and Standards Division, the Infrastructure and Platforms Sector. The Section leads the Global Intellectual Property Assignment Platform (GIPAP) project, which, in collaboration with intellectual property (IP) offices and rights holders, aims to create a single, centralized portal that streamlines the recordation of patent, trademark and industrial design assignments across multiple jurisdictions.

The Section is also responsible for the Committee on WIPO Standards (CWS), which develops and manages WIPO Standards to promote standardization and interoperability among IP offices, and for the WIPO ICT Leadership Dialogue (WILD), which advances digital cooperation and harmonization. The Section supports the modernization of IP administration and improved global IP service delivery by fostering collaboration among IP offices, rights holders and other stakeholders on IP data and documentation, digital transformation and global IP information systems.

 

 

b.    Purpose Statement

 

The incumbent leads the analysis and harmonization of business, legal, regulatory and operational requirements for GIPAP, working with national and regional IP offices, IP owners and other stakeholders. The incumbent translates complex multi-jurisdictional requirements into business solutions that support the successful delivery and adoption of GIPAP, contributing to the modernization, efficiency and interoperability of global IP assignment and recordation services.

 

 

c.    Reporting Lines

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Standards Section.

 

 

 

2.      Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

 

a.   Analyze and document the business, legal, regulatory and operational requirements governing assignment and recordation procedures for patents, trademarks, and industrial designs across jurisdictions.

 

b.   Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize and harmonize assignment and recordation processes and requirements to support a globally scalable solution.

 

c.   Lead consultations and coordinate engagement with IP offices, IP owners, practitioners, industry associations and other stakeholders to identify requirements, build consensus, facilitate adoption and support participation in the development and implementation of GIPAP.

 

d.   Translate complex multi-jurisdictional requirements into business capabilities, user journeys, user stories, data models and system requirements for technical delivery teams.

 

e.   Partner with business, legal and technical stakeholders to design, implement and continuously improve solutions that address global IP assignment and recordation needs.

 

f.    Coordinate the business aspects of solution delivery, including validation requirements, acceptance criteria, user acceptance testing and monitoring of expected business outcomes and benefits.

 

g.   Prepare analyses, recommendations and presentations for stakeholders and management, and monitor developments and best practices relevant to business analysis, digital service delivery and global IP administration.

 

h.   Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

 

3.      Requirements

 

Education (Essential)

Advanced university degree in IP law, information technology, or another closely related field.

 

A first-level university degree, combined with two additional years of relevant experience beyond the requirement below, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

 

Education (Desirable)

Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) is an asset.

 

Experience (Essential)

At least seven years of relevant professional experience, including in intellectual property administration.


Proven experience leading business analysis, business transformation or digital modernization initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, jurisdictions and regulatory environments.


Experience applying established business analysis methods and processes to assess complex requirements, design business solutions and support successful implementation.


Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and influencing delivery across business, legal and technical functions.

 

Experience (Desirable)

Experience in IP assignment and recordation filing or management.


Experience working in an international environment, including organizing and coordinating technical discussions and meetings at the international level.


Experience using IP office online platforms for filings, registrations or other office actions.


Proficiency in business process modeling tools and techniques.

 

Language (Essential)

Excellent written and spoken English.

 

Language (Desirable)

Knowledge of another UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish.

Excellent knowledge of intellectual property administration, with a strong understanding of global IP assignment processes.

5.      Information

 

Annual salary:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  Please note that this estimate is for information only.  The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.  The figures quoted below are based on the September 2026 rate of 83.7%

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
