ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Under the overall authority of the Director of Office & UNESCO Representative and the direct supervision of the Senior Operations Officer, the Senior Driver provides reliable and safe driving services in support of the UNESCO Office, ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security matters.

KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

More specifically, the incumbent will undertake the following duties:

  • Drives the Director of the Office, and when available, the UNESCO staff, officials, visitors and authorized personnel using the Office vehicle, ensuring reliable and safe driving services.
  • Meets official personnel and visitors at the airport and, when required, facilitates basic visa and customs formalities. Drives vehicle on field trips, as required.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper day-to-day use of the assigned vehicle and accurate day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through daily vehicle logs, timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels and car washing so that the vehicule is kept clean and in good running condition at all times.
  • Provides inputs to preparation of the vehicule maintenance plans and reports, etc. Arranges for for the vehicle to be inspected and repaired at the officially designated workshop; checks the vehicle prior to and after the workshop visit.
  • Ensures availibility of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicule; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities. Ensures timely, accurate and correct reporting of accidents. Assist on installations and use the VHF radio/mobile/satellite phone in the vehicle.
  • Delivers and collects mail and documents, including visas, identity cards, driving licenses and other necessary personnel-related documents, in accordance with requirements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other items as required.
  • Undertakes  basic clerical duties, such as photocopying, binding, assisting with filing, paying some office bills, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Completed secondary, technical or vocational education.
  • Valid category B driving license held for more than 5 years.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience as a driver.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Vehicle maintenance skills and basic skills in automotive mechanics.
  • Excellent knowledge of Chilean traffic laws and regulations.
  • Efficiency, tact, discretion and keen observation skills in carrying out tasks and adhering to instructions.
  • Availability and flexibility to meet service needs.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Acute attention to any safety and security matters that may impact vehicle operations.
  • Capacity to deliver emergency responses and ensure protocol compliance.

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent knowledge of Spanish (wtritten and spoken) and basic knowledge of English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Certification in first aid.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience within the UN system, and international organisation or diplomatic mission.
  • Experience in customs procedures and protocol.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of defensive driving.

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc. 

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is CLP 20,378,000.00
