Full job description
Host entity: Action Lab For Development Association
Application deadline: 19/10/2026
Mission and objectives
Action Lab for Development is dedicated to advancing education, food security, and advocacy to empower entrepreneurs, newcomers and promote creative economies in Canada. We envision a future where local innovators and newcomers have the resources to thrive through growth and development.
Our mission includes five key objectives:
We provide tools and opportunities for creative innovation and entrepreneurship, focusing on continuous improvement.
We enable networking and training activities to connect entrepreneurs, institutions, and partners.
We educate entrepreneurs and newcomers about fair business practices and social responsibility.
We guide emerging entrepreneurs in understanding social and business ecosystems through essential skills and techniques.
We encourage youth involvement in volunteering and ensure universal access to research and education by building digital platforms for community knowledge and supporting local ingenuity.
Action Lab For Development was registered as an Extra-Provincial Corporation in Alberta-Canada in 2024, granted special consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2020, reflecting our commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Our primary focus areas include:
• Food Security
• Advocacy
• Education
• These initiatives aim to positively impact local innovators, including newcomers in Canada who may be facing challenges related to integration into a new environment and starting life. Our research shows that access to education, particularly in social entrepreneurship, is a powerful tool for these individuals. It enables them to turn their experiences into practical solutions that benefit their communities.
Assignment context
Action Lab for Development, with the support of a previous team of UN Online Volunteers – Sidita Zaja, Audrey Leroux, Ongezwa Mpisana, Nahome Isaac, Charles Daniel NDJAB and Marnie Gomes – successfully developed and submitted an expression of interest and grant application to NIYEL, an international development and advocacy organisation based in Dakar, Senegal. ACTLAB was subsequently awarded a grant of CAD 7,329 to implement an Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) project under the Digital and Intelligent Africa (IDIA) Cohort 2 initiative in Cameroon.
The project is being implemented across Francophone Africa by selected nonprofit organisations in participating countries, with ACTLAB leading the Cameroon implementation in Bamenda, Douala and Yaoundé. The initiative is supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada, and UK International Development and aims to contribute to a responsible AI ecosystem in which local communities and experts are enabled to address development challenges through safe, inclusive, rights-based and sustainable AI applications, practices and policies.
As part of the Cameroon project, ACTLAB is conducting community mobilisation, workshops and consultations on AI literacy, ethical reflection, community voice, AI governance and responsible AI use, culminating in a national consultation in Yaoundé. The training produced through this assignment will support these activities and help participants understand AI and reflect on how communities can contribute to shaping its responsible use.
Participants may be introduced to and engage with AI platforms such as MoralityCode, ChatGPT and Gemini during the workshops. ACTLAB's MoralityCode AI also includes an AI-powered reflection feature, “Reflect with AI,” within its Dilemma/Stories section, which provides a practical example of AI-assisted ethical reflection.
The online Volunteer will therefore adapt ACTLAB's approved training materials into an accessible online learning session that supports the project's objectives and can be used in both French and English.
