Assignment context

Every child has the right to grow up in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment, with access to education, healthcare, protection, recreation and opportunities to reach their full potential. However, millions of children worldwide continue to face poverty, educational barriers, malnutrition, violence, discrimination and limited access to essential services.

World Children's Day, celebrated annually on 20 November, provides an important opportunity to promote children's rights, raise awareness of the challenges they face and encourage collective action to improve their lives.

The « Mate Swell » youth movement, hosted by the Centre international de formation en droits humains et développement durable (C.I.F.D.H/D.D.), seeks to contribute to this global initiative by mobilizing young people and communities to organize practical activities in support of children.

Through this initiative, Mate Swell aims to encourage volunteers, associations, schools, businesses and other stakeholders to take action according to their local needs and available resources. Activities may include educational and recreational events, donations of school supplies and hygiene kits, awareness campaigns, inclusive games, children's rights workshops and solidarity initiatives benefiting vulnerable children.

The campaign will be coordinated internationally, allowing volunteers from different countries to organize or support local activities while contributing to a shared global initiative.

The initiative is guided by the Mate Swell motto, “People, Not Pennies,” which emphasizes the power of collective action, solidarity and community engagement. It seeks to demonstrate that meaningful change can begin with individual contributions and grow through cooperation.

Volunteers will support community mobilization, activity planning, partnership development, resource mobilization, communication, event coordination and documentation.

Beyond the activities organized on 20 November, the initiative seeks to encourage sustained youth engagement in promoting children's rights and creating opportunities for every child to thrive.
