Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) provides political and executive direction to United Nations peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop- and police-contributing countries (T/PCCs), and financial contributors. This internship is located in the Integrated Training Service (ITS) of the Policy, Evaluation and Training Division (PETD) in DPO. ITS is responsible for developing peacekeeping training policies, standards, and materials, and supporting capacity-building for military, police, and civilian peacekeepers. The intern will work under the supervision of the Team Leader of the Training Policy and Standards Team (TPST). The Intern will support the development of e-learning and training materials, including: • Assist with developing short e-learning courses from existing training materials. • Help prepare simple scenarios, scripts, storyboards, quizzes and learning activities. • Assist with editing images, audio and video for use in online courses. • Help build and update e-learning modules using tools such as Articulate or similar software. • Review and test courses and help make corrections and updates. • Build national trainer roster database and build profile histories. • Help organize course materials and multimedia files. • Perform other related duties as required. For this internship, it is expected the intern will review and draft from existing DPO published training materials found here: https://peacekeepingresourcehub.un.org/en/training By the end of the internship, the intern will have: • Gained practical experience in developing short e-learning courses. • Developed basic skills in preparing storyboards, scripts, scenarios and learning activities. • Gained experience using e-learning development tools. • Improved basic image, audio and video editing skills for online learning. • Gained experience reviewing and testing e-learning materials and making revisions based on feedback. • Developed an understanding of how UN peacekeeping training materials are adapted for online learning.
Qualifications/special skills
Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelors or equivalent), Masters of Ph.D. programme of preferred fields of study: learning design, education technology, digital media and multimedia productions, communications, training and learning, graphic or interactive media design, or a related field with strong digital-learning portfolio. Work Experience • No professional work experience required. • Familiarity with e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360, or similar platforms. • Experience drafting scripts, storyboards, scenarios, or interactive learning activities. • Basic experience editing graphics, audio, and video. • Experience with learning management systems and accessibility principles is an advantage. • Knowledge of SharePoint, Power BI, Excel, or similar digital tools is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
