The United Nations Population Fund is the UN's sexual and reproductive health agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

Assignment context

The Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action (Youth Compact) is an unprecedented global collective commitment of over 60 humanitarian actors—including governments, UN entities, NGOs, and youth networks—working to ensure that the priorities, rights, and needs of young people affected by crises are addressed, and that youth are meaningfully engaged in emergency response.

The Youth Compact website serves as our primary portal for resources and networking. Because the Compact coordinates a vast network spanning global institutions and grassroots youth leaders, this digital restructuring is highly crucial. The platform must serve simultaneously as an open, accessible educational resource for the public and a secure, streamlined collaborative hub for internal members.

This Online Assignment is part of the 'Youth Compact 2026' initiative to transform our website into a dynamic storytelling platform. By combining content creation with rigorous editing, the Online Volunteers ensures our mission to transform the humanitarian system and support youth-led humanitarian action is communicated with both professional authority and creative energy. This contribution helps us reach diverse global stakeholders and non-native English speakers.

For this initiative, two Online Volunteers (one Technical/Web Design and one Editorial) will work in tandem under the close supervision and guidance of the Youth Compact Co-Chairs (the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and ActionAid International).

Task description

The Online Volunteers will conduct a technical audit, site map restructuring, and complete layout redesign of the Youth Compact website (www.youthcompact.info) on SquareSpace.

Skills and experience

CMS Expertise (SquareSpace preferred): Proven experience designing, building and managing websites on SquareSpace or similar modern CMS platforms/web builders (e.g. WordPress, Webflow, Wix). While the project will be built entirely within SquareSpace, strong expertise in comparable environments with a willingness to adapt is fully acceptable. Familiarity with setting up localization/multilingual sub-domains or multi-language template frameworks is highly desired.

UX/UI & Information Architecture: Strong background in user experience (UX) design, web design, and mapping out logical website navigation structures.

Web Development: Proficiency in frontend web design technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) as they apply to customizing standard CMS templates.
Training & Enablement: Ability to articulate technical workflows simply, design clean user guides, or lead training sessions for non-technical users to facilitate digital handover.

Collaborative Mindset: Experience working closely with content creators, copywriters, or editorial teams to marry technical design with narrative strategy.

Soft Skills: Ability to work independently, take constructive feedback, present design concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
