Assignment context
The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), an ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organization, is a key partner in the organizing committee for the Inaugural Africa Volunteer Conference (AVC) 2026. The conference, scheduled for November 10-14, 2026, in Gaborone, Botswana, will bring together key stakeholders to advance the volunteerism agenda in Africa.
As part of the preparations, IAVE is taking over the hosting and management of the official conference website. To ensure a seamless transition and the continued effective operation of this vital digital platform, IAVE is seeking the support of five dedicated online volunteers. The volunteers will work as a team to manage, update, and enhance the website, ensuring it serves as a dynamic and comprehensive information hub for all conference participants and stakeholders.
Task description
Under the supervision of the designated focal point at IAVE, the team of online volunteers will be responsible for the following tasks:
Website Transition and Management:
Coordinate with the previous technical team to ensure a smooth handover of all backend information, login credentials, and technical documentation.
Take ownership of the website's day-to-day management and maintenance.
Content Updates and Enhancement:
Regularly update the website with new and relevant content, including conference schedules, speaker biographies, registration details, news, and partner information.
Develop and integrate new features, pages, or sections as required by the conference organizing committee.
Ensure all content is accurately presented and aligns with the branding guidelines of the AVC 2026.
Technical Support and Optimization:
Ensure the website is fully functional, mobile-responsive, and provides an excellent user experience across all devices.
Monitor website performance, conduct routine security checks, and perform necessary backups.
Identify and resolve any technical issues, bugs, or broken links in a timely manner.
Skills and experience
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in web development and management, particularly with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla.
Proficiency in front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is essential.
Experience in graphic design and familiarity with tools like Adobe Photoshop or Canva is an asset.
Skills:
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
A proactive and creative approach to problem-solving.
