Mission and objectives
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity on human rights. OHCHR’s mission is to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented.
Assignment context
The Online Volunteer for social media will support the OHCHR New York Office in implementing its communications and advocacy activities. Working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO), the volunteer will contribute to the creation of social media posts to give visibility to the work of the UN Human Rights Office in New York.
Task description
The OHCHR New York Office is seeking one (1) Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and in close collaboration with relevant colleagues, will support with the drafting of news articles and stories for OHCHR’s website.
In particular, the Online Volunteer will be asked to:
• Draft up to five news articles or stories for OHCHR’s website during the assignment;
• Contribute ideas for creative digital storytelling that helps communicate complex human rights issues in an accessible and engaging manner.
Skills and experience
Candidates should have professional experience in writing, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. A strong background in media and communications is an advantage.
SKILLS
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint;
• Ability to work independently but with strong interpersonal skills;
• Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines.
