Mission and objectives

For two decades, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has been helping make the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption and terrorism. We are committed to achieving health, security and justice for all by tackling these threats and promoting peace and sustainable well-being as deterrents to them.

Because the scale of these problems is often too great for states to confront alone, UNODC offers practical assistance and encourages transnational approaches to action. We do this in all regions of the world through our global programmes and network of field offices.

The Office is committed to supporting Member States in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its core. The 2030 Agenda clearly recognizes that the rule of law and fair, effective and humane justice systems, as well as health-oriented responses to drug use, are both enablers for and part of sustainable development.

The Border Management Branch was created in April 2022 to deliver collaborative and comprehensive border management technical assistance to Member States. The Branch includes UNODC's Airport Communication Programme (AIRCOP), Container Control Programme (CCP), the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), the Criminal Network Disruption Programme (CRIMJUST) and the UNODC Environment Team, which runs the Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment.

Assignment context

The assignment is situated within the UNODC Border Management Branch (BMB), specifically under the Global Programme on Criminal Network Disruption (GPCD/CRIMJUST), which supports Member States in strengthening international cooperation against transnational organized crime.

As part of ongoing programme implementation and reporting requirements, UNODC produces analytical and narrative reports for internal and external stakeholders, including donors such as the European Union. These reports capture operational results, partnerships, and lessons learned across multiple regions, including Latin America, the Caribbean, West Africa, and Europe.

Given the volume of reporting deliverables and the need for high-quality, timely outputs, this assignment will support the consolidation and finalization of the final report from the EU funded project CRIMJUST (phase I, Phase II and Phase III). The Online UN Volunteer will contribute to ensuring that these reports are coherent, well-structured, and aligned with UNODC's standards.

The final product will consolidate the data of the successful implementation which will is key to further fundraising for the Global Programme.

Task description

UNODC-GPCD is seeking support to assist in the drafting, consolidation, and finalization of five programme reports related to activities on transnational organized crime and international cooperation.

The assignment will involve working with existing materials (notes, drafts, inputs from colleagues) and transforming them into clear, structured, and publication-ready reports.


Key Tasks

Review and consolidate existing draft materials and inputs

Structure reports in line with UNODC / donor reporting standards

Draft and edit narrative sections (context, activities, outcomes, lessons learned)

Ensure clarity, coherence, and consistency across all reports

Apply light copy-editing and proofreading

Incorporate feedback from the team in a timely manner

Skills and experience

Demonstrated experience in drafting, editing, or reviewing analytical or programme reports

Excellent writing and editing skills in English, with strong attention to detail

Ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise narratives

Familiarity with international development, criminal justice, or rule of law programmes is an asset

Experience with UN or donor reporting formats (e.g. EU-funded programmes) is desirable

Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines

Ability to work independently and incorporate feedback efficiently
