Mission and objectives

In 1961, a United Nations General Assembly established the World Food Programme (UN WFP) as the lead agency to respond to food emergencies and help combat hunger worldwide.

Six decades later, UN WFP has a presence in over 120 countries and territories to carry out our mission. We continue to bring lifesaving food aid to people displaced by conflict and made destitute by disasters, and help individuals and communities find life-changing solutions to the multiple challenges they face in building better futures.

Assignment context

Support the WFP Programme Unit in strengthening knowledge, awareness, and capacity on the linkages between biodiversity, school feeding, food security, and education in preparation for COP17 in Armenia.

The Online Volunteer will develop knowledge and advocacy materials, design and facilitate training sessions and workshops for WFP staff, government counterparts, and partners, and promote knowledge sharing on transformative home-grown school feeding approaches that integrate biodiversity.

This assignment will contribute to raising awareness, fostering collaboration, and showcasing good practices that support sustainable food systems and resilience.

Task description

WFP seeks support of two online volunteers for the COP17 preperations, where the volunteers will do the following tasks:

- Develop knowledge products, briefs, and communication materials linking biodiversity with school feeding, food security, and education.
- Develop learning materials/briefs based on best practices in transformative home‑grown school feeding approaches that integrate biodiversity and education tailored to regional contexts.
- Design and deliver training sessions for WFP staff, partners, and government counterparts on biodiversity and its linkages to school feeding and food security.
- Facilitate online workshops and co‑creation sessions for the teams that will present the School Feeding Programme during the COP17 October 2026.

In specific, the two online volunteers will produce:
Volunteer 1: Develop four knowledge and advocacy materials linking biodiversity with school feeding, food security, and education, including:
- One presentation (45 min session) for WFP staff who will present the School Feeding Programme during the COP17.
- One presentation (45 min session) for government counterparts
- One presentation for partners (45 min session)
- One factsheet combining all the 3 aspects

Volunteer 2: Develop learning materials/briefs based on best practices in transformative home‑grown school feeding approaches that integrate biodiversity and education tailored to regional contexts. Information can be taken from open sourced and drafted with the support of Programme Unit
- One presentation for WFP staff who will present the School Feeding Programme during the COP17.
- One presentation for government counterparts
- One presentation for partners

Skills and experience

- Advanced university degree in Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Food Security, Education, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of biodiversity, sustainable food systems, and school feeding.
- Experience in content development, training, and advocacy.
- Excellent communication and networking skills.
- Previous experience with UN agencies, NGOs, or government institutions is an asset.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into accessible content.
- Capacity to work collaboratively across teams and with government counterparts.
