The post is presently located in New York. The Communications Officer specializing in Digital Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive digital communication strategies to enhance the visibility and understanding of the UNDSS Division of Field Operations' work and its impact. This includes managing and optimizing the organization's online presence across various digital platforms, creating innovative and engaging content, analysing digital communication metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and make necessary adjustments. The officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the UNDSS's digital footprint and fostering greater global engagement with its initiatives and programmes.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Communications Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Draft compelling narratives and messaging on the work of the UN that engage target audiences across different channels and platforms. • Create compelling content that is optimized to reach target audiences across a range of platforms and channels. • Participate in the development and implementation of digital communication strategies, including social media and/or website strategies, which raise awareness, drive engagement, build support and have measurable impact with target audiences. • Participate in the creation and management of compelling and relevant content for websites, create and moderate engaging and platform-optimized content for social media channels, including live content, tailored for digital platforms to advance digital communications priorities and campaigns work. • Participate in the development and implementation of social media strategies that measurably raise awareness of UN work with target audiences. • Create and moderate engaging and platform-optimized content, including live content, tailored for social media and other digital platforms to advance digital communications priorities and campaigns work. • Participate in the development and implementation of website strategies that raise awareness, drive engagement, build support and have measurable impact with target audiences. • Develop bespoke content for the website and provide editorial guidance to ensure stylistic consistency, political sensitivity, and accuracy of information. • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and discreet handling of sensitive information in compliance with the UN data privacy, security requirements, and standards. • Monitor, analyse, and report on communications approaches, activities and strategies to assess their performance and effectiveness. • Collect and analyse data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting. • Contribute to the development and delivery of presentations to stakeholders to strengthen understanding of UN mandates and related activities.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in communications, journalism, public information, or other relevant areas, is required. At least three years’ experience using professional video-editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent, to produce and edit video content is required. At least three years’ experience using visual design and presentation software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent, to develop infographics, presentations, factsheets, and other communication products is required. Experience producing and editing professional video content, including scripting, filming coordination, audio, captions and post-production, is required. Experience designing infographics, presentations, factsheets, or other visual communication products is required. Experience producing video content, infographics, visual storytelling products, and strategic communications materials, as demonstrated through a portfolio or work samples, is desirable. Experience supporting project coordination, monitoring, reporting or stakeholder engagement is desirable.

• This job opening is advertised to fill an extra-budgetary funded temporary position. The appointment is for a period of up to 364 days, or until 31 December 2027, whichever occurs first, and may be extended subject to the continued availability of funding. According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
