Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Hub for East and Southern , Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The incumbent will report to the Programme Management Officer (workstream lead) under overall guidance of the Regional Director or his/her delegated representative.
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority, the Driver will be responsible for the following duties • Drives vehicles safely for the transport of UNOHCHR and other UN visitors and authorised personnel, applying appropriate protocols. • Makes regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc. • Makes minor purchases and collects urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested. Collects goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods. • Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required. • Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors. • Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean. • Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc. • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident. • Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given. • Provides input to the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. • Performs other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honours commitments; delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time, cost and quality standards; operates in compliance with organizational regulations and rules; supports subordinates, provides oversight and takes responsibility for delegated assignments; takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job - Specific Qualification
Driver training with a valid driver’s license is required
Work Experience
Experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of motor vehicles, including vans and vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions, is required. Experience in performing protocol-related duties, including the transportation of officials and visitors, is required. Experience working within the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required.
