Mission and objectives

UNFPA has been working in Yemen since early 1970s. UNFPA’s 5th Country Programe for Yemen from 2012-2015 has been extended since 2016. The current country programme has been directed to a humanitarian response upon the activation of a Level 3 emergency response in Yemen on 1 July 2015.

UNFPA’s response in Yemen aims at meeting the reproductive health needs of women and girls and ensuring that they are protected from gender-based violence, working in close partnership with local authorities, non-governmental partners and UN agencies across the country.

Assignment context

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), reaffirms the relevance of the current strategic direction of UNFPA and focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.

In Yemen, sudden climate-induced flooding combined with protracted conflict-driven displacements create emergency survival crises daily. The inter-agency Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) led by UNFPA ensures life-saving aid pipelines (including Dignity Kits, hygiene packages, and emergency food rations) are deployed to highly vulnerable displaced families within 48 to 72 hours of a trigger shock. To support this mechanism, the RRM Information Management (IM) Officer operates at the National UN Associate tier to govern field registration tracking engines, clean up data registries across partners, maintain mapping systems, and streamline information visibility pipelines.

The assignment will contribute to effective coordination with implementing partners and relevant humanitarian working groups, improve the collection and analysis of reproductive health data, support rapid assessments, and strengthen health information systems to ensure that response activities are evidence-based, well-coordinated, and responsive to the needs of women and girls affected by the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, with authorized field missions.
