Mission and objectives
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA has been operating in India since 1974.
Assignment context
UNFPA India supports the Government of India and other partners to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV), adolescent and youth well-being, family planning, maternal health and other priorities under its programme framework. These priorities are interconnected and require rights-based, gender-responsive and inclusive approaches across policies, programmes and service delivery.
The evolving demographic, social, environmental and humanitarian context also creates emerging challenges for access to and continuity of essential SRHR services and for the protection and well-being of women, girls, adolescents and other vulnerable populations. Climate change, extreme weather events, disasters and humanitarian situations can exacerbate existing inequalities, increase protection risks and disrupt access to health, information and support services.

The UNV Specialist will contribute to evidence generation, technical assistance, policy and programme support, stakeholder coordination, capacity building, knowledge management and documentation.
