The incumbent is responsible for planning, designing, assessing, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring civil, structural engineering works and related infrastructure development activities to ensure that mission infrastructure is safe, resilient, sustainable, cost-effective, and compliant with applicable engineering standards and international best practices. Under the supervision of the Chief, FMU, the officer provides technical expertise and advisory support on structural engineering, geotechnical investigations, infrastructure planning, construction quality assurance, risk management, and asset sustainability. The incumbent will contribute to infrastructure development strategies, camp master plans, maintenance programs, rehabilitation initiatives, and engineering assessments across all UNISFA locations. Responsibilities The Structural Engineer will be based at UNISFA Abyei Headquarters and will travel frequently to field locations. The Structural Engineer will be responsible for the following duties: Administration Coordinate geotechnical investigations, site assessments, soil testing programs, and conduct foundation evaluations for new construction and rehabilitation projects. Review geological, hydrological, and geotechnical data to determine site suitability and engineering requirements. Review and evaluate geotechnical data, including soil characteristics, bearing capacity, settlement behavior, groundwater conditions, and slope stability to support infrastructure design. Provide technical recommendations on foundation systems, earthworks, retaining structures, pavement design, and ground improvement requirements. Perform structural design of buildings, structures, and their components. Review and technically verify structural designs, calculations, drawings, and reports prepared by consultants and contractors including relevant geotechnical design inputs. Ensure compliance with applicable engineering design codes and standards, international building codes, safety requirements, and environmental regulations. Maintain comprehensive records of geotechnical investigations, laboratory test results, structural assessments, construction inspections, and engineering documentation. Prepare technical specifications, Statements of Work (SoWs), Bills of Quantities (BoQs), cost estimates, and procurement documents for civil, structural, and geotechnical projects. Coordinate with engineers, environmental specialists, procurement officers, and contractors throughout project implementation. Provide technical advice to management on engineering risks, infrastructure condition, project feasibility, and resource requirements. Planning and Design Lead structural assessments and coordinate associated geotechnical investigations for roads, bridges, culverts, drainage systems, retaining walls, helipads, accommodation and office facilities, warehouses, workshops, utility structures, and other mission infrastructure.
