ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
These jobs are in Country Offices (COs). Doctor report administratively to WFP Clinics Coordinator and technically to the WFP Clinics Senior Doctor.
JOB PURPOSE:
WFP Clinic Doctor will be responsible for patient care in his duty station.
While the Doctor collaborates with the WFP Clinics Coordinator on the administrative, logistical and operational issues of the Clinic, his main responsibilities are evidence based primary healthcare and clinical care oversight. The Doctor (GP) will be based mostly in Area Office or Field Office locations (Port Sudan, Kassala, Dongola, Kosti, Zalingei, Khartoum, Geneina, El Obeid, Madani) but may need to rotate to the other Clinic as needed.
Duty Station: Multiple Duty Stations
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
Clinical Duties:
- Report administratively to the WFP Clinics Coordinator and technically to the WFP Clinics Senior Doctor.
- Provide evidence-based primary care to all eligible staff members and their dependents, in line with Sudan Country Office guidelines.
- Provide first aid, medical advice, and minor outpatient treatments.
- Perform diagnostic and basic laboratory tests (e.g., ECG, malaria RDT, urine dipstick).
- Deliver clinical services across duty stations, including field office rotations, and report on staff health status and available local medical support.
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions, including follow-up care and continuity of treatment.
- Detect and support mental health conditions early, and refer cases to appropriate specialists for treatment and follow-up.
- Dispense medications in accordance with evidence-based medicine and international standards, ensuring proper patient guidance.
- Perform clinical procedures such as medication administration, injections, wound care, suturing, minor foreign body extraction, and initiation of IV fluid therapy when clinically indicated.
- Consult with the Senior Doctor on complex cases and participate in peer review discussions to support quality of care.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and secure electronic medical records, including proper documentation of clinical findings.
- Provide medical support during evacuations and repatriations, including patient preparation and escort when required.
- Provide technical medical assessments to inform patient disposition (e.g., continued observation, primary treatment, referral, or medical evacuation), in line with established guidance.
- Deliver health promotion and illness/injury prevention activities as directed.
- Ensure medical preparedness for staff on missions or reassignment, including vaccinations, travel health advice, and preventive measures; perform other related duties as required.
- Recommend medical evacuation when required to the Senior Doctor or appropriate WFP/UN agency Senior Doctor.
- Undertake Entry, Periodic/Exit Medical Examinations, provide medical certificate recommending sick leave for the WFP Medical Services approval when appropriate, make recommendations for Medical Travel as needed.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality by not sharing medical records with agency/employer Ensure proper follow up and if required, referral on all cases.
- Document all case findings, referrals, and follow up; Establish good relations with reliable hospitals and private medical facilities.
- Ensure that proper medical records are kept in a strictly confidential manner.
- Prepare and send periodic reports of functions, visits, medical evacuations, and treatments to Senior Doctor. and WFP/UN agency Doctors.
- Advise on health precautionary steps to be undertaken at any of the WFP/UN agency offices.
- Perform any other duties as considered necessary by the WFP Clinic Coordinator or WFP Clinic Senior Doctor.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
Advanced university degree (Doctorate, Master or equivalent) in Medicine or demonstrably equivalent studies from a recognized institution. Registration as a General Practitioner in the country of origin is required.
ACLS certificate required. Additional training or certification in emergency cases management will be an advantage.
Experience:
At least five (5) years of post-graduate clinical practice experience is required, including at least two (2) years of post-graduate emergency care experience.
Experience in a hardship location, experience abroad, and experience with the UN/INGOs are considered additional assets.
Knowledge & Skills:
· Specialist expertise in the assessment of medical health needs and the assessment of risk.
· Demonstrated skills to create a trusted environment in which patients can talk confidentially.
· Ability to manage medical emergency situations with limited resources.
· Excellent clinical knowledge and skills.
· Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation).
· Analytical ability
· Ability to communicate effectively with people of both genders and diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
· Skills in designing and delivering training/information sessions on several subjects and ability to adapt those to different audiences.
· Time management
Language:
Fluency (level C) in English language and Arabic.
