This internship is located in the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Division seeks to strengthen international cooperation for social development, particularly in the areas of poverty eradication, productive employment and decent work, as well as the social inclusion of older persons, youth, families, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, and persons marginalized from society and development. The intern will work under the supervision of and report to the Public Information Officer in the Programme Planning and Coordination Unit (PPCU). The intern will assist the Programme Planning and Coordination Unit/DISD/DESA in its internal and external communications and outreach efforts, with particular emphasis on preparations for major intergovernmental processes and events taking place in 2027, including the 65th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD65), the 20th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP20), and the 2027 session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII). The intern will: • Research and monitor United Nations developments and news sources, including press releases, statements, briefings and meetings related to inclusive social development issues; • Produce and update news and digital content, including event coverage, interviews, articles, video messages and other materials for DISD websites and social media platforms; • Support preparations and communications for CSocD65 in 2027, including NGO participation, side events, registration, outreach, web content and social media materials; • Support preparations for COSP20 in June 2027, including civil society participation, side events, conference-related communications, digital content and outreach; • Support preparations for the 2027 session of UNPFII, including outreach and communications related to Indigenous Peoples’ participation, meetings, events and related activities; • Attend events, meetings and seminars and provide communications support, including drafting, editing and publishing news stories, summaries and articles; • Assist in preparing public information materials, including presentations, event concept notes, flyers, infographics, social media cards and video productions, in coordination with relevant substantive and outreach focal points; • Support communications and outreach related to follow-up to the Second World Summit for Social Development and implementation and promotion of the Doha Political Declaration; • Support communications campaigns for relevant United Nations international days and observances related to the mandate of DISD; • Monitor social media activities and audience engagement and contribute ideas for strengthening the reach and impact of DISD digital communications; • Evaluate the results and impact of communications activities and provide recommendations, as appropriate; • Update and enhance website content related to inclusive social development, ensuring timely publication of events, announcements, reports and other materials; and • Perform other related duties as required.

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
