BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) are among the most hazard-prone in the world, with eight out of the 20 nations experiencing the highest average disaster losses in the world being in the Pacific. Analysis indicates that progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 in PICTs has been limited. This is in part driven by growing inequality, gender inequity and public services that are insufficient to address poverty, improve education or health outcomes; against the backdrop of the climate crisis, food insecurity and geopolitical pressures.
In July 2023, WFP started a Multi-Country Strategic Plan (MCSP) 2023-2027, focused on strengthening the capacities of regional and national stakeholders for emergency preparedness and response in logistics, emergency telecommunications, disaster risk management, food security and developing inclusive and accessible shock-responsive social protection systems that focus on those most at risk of being left behind. The MCSP is aligned with the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, the United Nations Pacific Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 and the 14 Country Implementation Plans (CIPs) that represent the main strategic engagement between the United Nations development system and Pacific governments.
Reporting directly to the Partnerships, Communications and Reports Officer, the incumbent will support WFP’s effective implementation of communication activities that maintain and enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be expected to perform the below actions in each of the following areas:
• Provide support to facilitate the planning, development, and execution of communication campaigns targeting specific audiences. Assist in creating communication materials for campaigns, and awareness initiatives, as well as contributing to other activities that implement WFP PMCO communications strategy.
• Contribute to WFP communication and donor visibility efforts by capturing photos and videos for social media platforms, reports, and printed material, gathering stories from beneficiaries, staff, and partners, and drafting content that highlights the impact of WFP operations, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and standards
• Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
• Contribute to research, collect, and regularly update a multimedia database with relevant photos, videos, case studies, and reference materials to support ongoing communication efforts.
• Serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimize publicity of WFP’s activities.
• Organize and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicized and attended.
• Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
• Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content.
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.

• Stories, social media posts, videos, images, infographics, photos posted to digital channels
• Social media calendar created and adhered to

Education:
A post-secondary certificate in a relevant field is required. A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies or equivalent in a related discipline, supplemented by relevant work experience, professional training, or specialized courses, is highly desirable and considered an asset.
Experience:
At least seven (7) years of professional experience in a relevant field of work, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
Knowledge & Skills:
Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills; knowledge of UN system policies and functions; proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of WFP reporting and data systems would be an advantage.
Language:
Fluency (level C) in English language both oral and written.
