Full job description
Host entity: UNDP
Areas of expertise: Art, design, culture, Communication, advocacy, public information, Digital and social media
Application deadline: 06/11/2026
Mission and objectives
UNDP is the United Nations' global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience, and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP Rwanda works closely with the Government of Rwanda and development partners to advance sustainable development, inclusive economic growth, and democratic governance. The UNDP Rwanda Country Programme Document (CPD) 2025-2029 identifies digital transformation and health innovation as strategic priority areas, aligned with Rwanda's National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) and Vision 2050.
Rwanda’s Ministry of Youth and Arts in partnership with UNDP launched Youth Connekt as a platform to connect innovative young Rwandans to help with the country’s inclusive economic transformation. This platform serves as a channel for youth, private sector, and government to address the challenges youth are facing in terms of employment and entrepreneurship
Assignment context
The YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2026 (25-27 November, Kigali, Rwanda) will discuss six thematic tracks: cross-border trade, governance and trust, dignified work, climate and green livelihoods, the creative economy, and youth health.
To reach young people across the continent, the Summit needs clear, consistent visuals that make these topics and the Summit's outcomes easy to understand and share. The designs will be used on YouthConnekt Africa and UNDP social media channels, in partner communications, and on screens at the venue.
Task description
We are looking for three (3) Online Volunteers who, under the supervision of the Project Communication & External Relations at UNDP Rwanda and in close collaboration with the YouthConnekt Africa communications team, will design visual materials for the Summit. In particular, each Online Volunteer will:
• Review the Summit's visual identity and brand guidelines, which will be shared in advance, and apply them consistently.
• Design social media templates (posts, stories, carousels) for each of the six thematic tracks, in English and French versions.
• Create speaker and session cards, countdown graphics and programme highlights.
• Produce simple infographics and data visuals explaining Summit themes and, after the Summit, its confirmed outcomes.
• Prepare editable templates in Canva or similar tools so the communications team and other volunteers can reuse them.
• Revise designs based on feedback and deliver final files in agreed formats.
• Attend virtual check-ins with the communications team (Kigali time, UTC+2).
The work is split by theme or format among the three volunteers. All designs must follow the Summit and UNDP branding guidelines and are approved by the communications team before use.
Online volunteers will build a portfolio of advocacy design for a continental event, work with UNDP and YouthConnekt Africa communications professionals, and receive a certificate of appreciation on successful completion.
Skills and experience
• Professional experience in graphic design, with a portfolio showing social media and infographic work (to be shared when applying).
• In-depth knowledge of design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Figma or Canva.
• Ability to turn text-heavy information into clear, simple visuals.
• Ability to work to brand guidelines and tight deadlines, and to accept feedback.
• Experience designing for development, public-sector or advocacy organisations is an asset.
• A degree in graphic design or a related field is an asset
